Keep it Simple- Share the Love

What’s Jack up to? Jack had fun barking his head off at the utility workers outside our house trimming trees for quite a while yesterday. It was a big treat for the Alpha Dog.

So Valentine’s Day is falling on Saturday this year. It’s been a long time since that happened. I’m sure it will be impossible to step a toe into just about any restaurant in town without a month old reservation. And really do I want to deal with the crowds? I don’t know.
The idea of a Saturday Valentine’s day seems like a little more pressure than the usual weekday Valentine of flowers delivered and a quiet evening meal. Although I may say I want the dining and dancing of a fab evening, in the end I’m a simple girl that enjoys a quiet tucked away dinner and a movie. That’s me, always the cheap date.

Now if I was being whisked off to some exotic locale for the weekend, believe me I would not complain about that either…

I guess it doesn’t really matter what you do as long as there is genuine love shared there somewhere (and good food doesn’t hurt).

So what are your weekend Valentine’s plans?

    Kindle Anyone?

Do you Kindle? Would you Kindle?

I never thought I would really be a Kindle girl, I mean you can’t very well take it in the bath, but on Saturday at my RWA meeting I got to touch feel and read on one up close and I fell in love. It’s so sleek, light weight and cool and it kind of feels very bookish. Also the thought that I can have so many books with me all the time right at my fingertips kinda makes me giddy.

Amazon is putting the new Kindle 2 on sale February 24th. (should have been available for V-day). It’s even slimmer and can hold so many more books and even has a read aloud feature. Very dangerous. I’m putting the Kindle 2 on my extended wish list. Of course I still need to get through my Nationals books. A girl has to have tub reading!

    Ride With Me

I don’t have much new to talk about today so I thought I’d share some pics taken a few weeks ago on a snowy drive down 5th Avenue with my Crackberry in hand. Looking back, I now see the day in a beautiful new light. To me there is no street like 5th Avenue no matter the weather.

    The Guggenheim

    Central Park

The Met- My most favorite place in all of New York.

    The Plaza- Still an Ahh…

I hope you have a lovely and not so snowy day.

P.S. Oh Man, is this a mean villain on 24 this season or what?

    Monday Monday

What’s Jack up to? Jack is being his usual funny self. Relaxing after a weekend of, well, relaxing. He cracks me up with his new pushiness. Lately, if his water bowl is empty and he sees me going toward the sink he’ll not so subtly just kick it out off his mat and look at me. Like I need another boss around here!

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a good weekend. The weather was above freezing in New York so that was a plus. The snow around my house is still not melted yet though. Hopefully soon. Then nice sweet buds will come. The early morning birds are starting to chirp. You’d think I’d like that. Um, no. It’s only cute in a Disney movie or after the 9 am hour.

It was a busy weekend lacking in the sleep/relaxation time that I’m longing for, but I’m hoping for some of that soon. 2 years maybe?

What running through my brain today?

1.Must make my writing personal goals for the day.

    2. Must get back to writing down what I eat. I’ve been a bit lax with that and it’s always helpful.

    3. I’m also wondering if I wish really hard will a cleaning fairy appear in my house? Freeing up 4 extra hours for me to slee-, no, um… write!

5.Tonight I’m going to look up and enjoy the full moon. I may even howl a little too!

    What’s doing for your day?

    Hello Lover

In the spirit of putting it out there in the Universe…

    Hello Birkin meet Kwana.

Kwana is a soon to be 40, ex-fashionista, now writer with a of love romance novels and all things beautiful hence, a longtime fan of you. She even wrote a story where you were a major character. Just saying. Tragic and strange, she knows, but a sure best seller if ever published. She also has two children that will be going to college soon and a home that needs improvements. Just saying that too. Birkin? Major home improvements? Le Sigh.

Now she knows about that whole terrible mess with Lady O a while back. Very unfortunate that was. Practically unforgivable. But like a sexy bad boy with smoldering eyes, she can’t turn away from you. If loving you is wrong she don’t want to be right. Le sigh again.

    Stealing Magnolias

What’s Jack up to? Oh you know Jack he’s into a bit of everything, but yesterday he really came in handy when this soliciting dude, looking quite chatty came to my door ringing my bell. Don’t ask me how he had the nerve to get up the steps because as soon as he hit the driveway Jack was already losing his mind. Barking, snarling, jumping, Jack was having none of this guy. He gave me the perfect out to say, through the door, “sorry, wild dog here. Can you just leave your literature on the porch and go? ” What a good dog I have!

Thanks so much for all your comments to my marriage vs. motherhood post yesterday. I loved reading them. It really can be a sticky subject and I agree with the very honest point made that motherhood can make a marriage harder. So true. Also Children’s ages can make motherhood harder. I am a different thinking woman than the one I was when my children were 4 or 5 as opposed to now 15. Just like I’m a different woman than the one I was when my husband first married me. Hmm… now I wonder how much the men actually change. I have to think on that a while. A post for another day perhaps?

It seems that Steel Magnolias was a real favorite with this group. So I went on youtube to look for a little clip to post here today and found this funny winner. Enjoy.

    Marriage or Motherhood

A while back over at Dooce she had a post that asked the question: what is more difficult marriage or motherhood? My quick answer was motherhood hands down and I’m still sticking with that answer. Of course, this could be just in my world. Being a mother of twins it was always a bit overwhelming even from the start and now that they are teenagers, oh baby please. Also the marriage thing always felt like it had an out. Which is funny for me to say since I’ve been married for 19 years through many ups and downs, but it’s different somehow from the forever of motherhood. Strange.

Sometimes I feel like the blog world is so full of happy shiny babies and well starched husbands that it would almost make a woman think that it’s all a breeze. But we do know better don’t we? It’s not all crafty days and Tiffany blue boxes. More often than not it is: where did the day go? Should we order in again? And did he seriously buy me that?

But back to the point, I guess it really comes down to what stage you are in life as to how you would answer this question. Is there a real answer? What do you all think out there? Opinions please. I love them.
Sidebar: Obviously the octuplets’ mom is clearly from the camp of marriage being harder because she is quick to have a baby, the marriage thing? Not so much for her.

Sidebar 2: Dear Twins, When you are in therapy moaning about me later please get it straight. It’s not because I didn’t think you couldn’t do anything. It’s because I believed you could do everything.

Sidebar 3: Just to keep this about writing and such, what are some of your favorite books or movies that deal with motherhood? One of mine is Terms of Endearment. It gets me every time.

    Super Monday

So this was the best part of the Superbowl for me, apart from the snack-o-rama at my house. That was pretty cool too. But this Macgruber commercial just cracked me up. BTW I still don’t fully understand football. Sorry DH.

This ad was my DS’s favorite. It’s a total boy ad but so funny. The best is that it was created for only 2 thousand dollars by a couple of guys who won a contest as opposed to the 2 million dollar ads. I love that.

Another Monday and I’ve got writing and workouts on my mind. My writing has been going too slow for my taste and I seem to get distracted by the slightest thing. It’s like, “oh look, shiny!” Not really, it’s just life has been super busy. But what else is new? I can’t believe it’s already February.

I’ve also got to get back on course with the old D-I-E-T. I’ve been just awful. No excuses there. Notice how it’s so easy to fall out of a good habit and way hard to give up bad one. No fair, huh?

    What’s doing for your week?

I think Jack and I are on the same page and both hoping that the snow predicted for Tuesday does not come. Enough already right, Jack?

    At Last

    Welcome President And Mrs. Obama!

And what a welcome it was. Yesterday was all I dreamed it would be and more. A day full of joy and emotion. I was so happy to be able to share it with my family. The sweet call from the DH right before Barack took the oath made my day.

The president’s inauguration speech was a call to arms for all of us that could not be ignored. I loved it when he said it was time to put away childish things. Amen. Time to grow up everybody. Stop being petty, put childish differences aside and do what you have to do for what is right.

And how happy am I that fashion is BACK! Michelle hit it out of the park. I thought she was so beautiful in her Isabel Toledo walking suit. That golden color out shined everyone. And the woman can even accessorize with color well. She may even get this New Yorker in color looking that good. Maybe.

And her white Jason Wu ball gown was ethereal.

She was floating as they danced to At Last sung by Beyonce at the Neighborhood Ball. This had to be the most romantic presidential dance yet. A collective Aww… heard around the world. With the champagne flowing in my house I had to get up and dance too, pulling the DH and the DS to dance with me. I could not contain my glee and the Dear Son could not stop laughing at me. Oh well.

The hard work is ahead in so many ways but I’m feeling so inspired. How about you? I hope I’m still a little giddy when I go back to regularly scheduled posts.

    Best,
    Kwana
