Protests, Finances and Fashion Oh My!
What’s Jack up to? Jack has been his usual scamp of a self. Getting into everything, barking at everyone and causing general chaos while being as cute as can be. There is no sign of it slowing down with the Dear Twins being on spring break this week. It will be a bumpy ride.I hope you all had a good weekend. So far I’ve had my fill of, “what are we gonna do todays,” and it’s only the beginning of the week. Sigh.I did take in my fair share of The President and First Lady’s travels with the G20 summit. There were the protests as there are at every summit with the world on a horrible economic downturn they are all the more justified.Finances were tops on every one lips with a the big wigs. Work people work! And although this was most important to me I’ll admit to being the ultimate girl and having the best time following the First Lady’s every move. What Grace, What style and to top it all off with so much substance. I get chills at the opportunity of hope that was not there before. I want my own daughter to feel it and believe. I’m so grateful for what has happened and sincerely hopeful for a better future for our young people of the world.
Thanks to the fab blog Mrs. O for the wonderful images. What fun for the Michelle Obama fan like myself. You can check it out here.Have a great Monday!Best,KwanaI’m Smitten
What’s Jack up to? Jack has been busy wandering around sneaking up to the kids room every chance he gets to see what trouble he can get into. Unfortunately with the Dear Twins messy rooms. It’s usually a lot.Wow! I had so much fun reading the comments from yesterday’s Whats Your Number post. It was so interesting. Very telling to me about how secure some of us are in our weight and it clearly depends on where you are in your relationship with your weight. We’ll have to do more of that type of polling here.
I’m happy to announce that the winner of the Barnes and Noble Gift card for making a comment on my interview over at Romance Writers on The Journey was Hope! We did the drawing at knitting the other day. The winning name was pulled by the lovely PVE. And, Yep, I resisted all those sweets. Notice Jack’s no sneaking gate in the corner.
Now, I’m sure it’s no secret here, but I am positively smitten with Michelle Obama. Cut to me with the silly school girl grin each time she shows up at some high powered Washington function looking like the coolest cucumber in the room.I’ll be picking up this week’s People magazine for sure. I have to say although I was/am no fan of Mr. Bush, surprise, surprise, I always liked Mrs. Bush and admired her class and grace. Hey there’s no accounting for who you fall in Love with.
But in Michelle I see an every woman, some of me, some of my friends and it just makes me smile. Such a modern woman, perfect for this time.Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Let There Be Light…. please.
Hello Tuesday. Thanks to all of you for your kind comments on Jack’s Obamicon yesterday. I hope you all had a nice President’s Day holiday.I got to spend a few hours alone with the DH while the Dear Teen Twins went their own ways. Sadly, it was not bliss, as on Saturday night, in the “now what else can go wrong?” category, our electricity went out in the kitchen and dining room. No, I don’t know why there is an ancient plug upstairs in the DD’s room that controls my kitchen’s power. Ask them. No, the electrician does not work on Sunday or a holiday. And no, I do not want to pay extra for an emergency worker that I don’t know and who does not know my old 1940’s house. And Yes, all I thought when I first saw it was “aww pretty,” smart huh?

Cut to me on Sunday throwing out bags and bags of now spoiled food. Sigh. And No, I didn’t remember there was a carton of Chocolate ice cream back there in the freezer. Eww.
Today, I hope Mr. Electric comes by and doesn’t break the bank or a wall. All this in time for vacation week with the kids. Grrrr… way to keep it stress free.In another funny but really not so funny moment, cut to me again, in the neurologist office as she tells me how I’ll feel so much better and less stressed if I got in more exercise. It works for her getting it done at 5am before her children are up. Yeah, like turning over works for me at that hour. Where do these pod people come from?In the “keeping it light” category. Remember way back when how I was going to try and stay positive? Snort. The new Vogue comes out today with First Lady Michelle Obama. I can’t wait to get a look see! I know she will at least look calmer and way more put together than I feel today. Love her style.Best,
Kwana
At Last
Welcome President And Mrs. Obama!
And what a welcome it was. Yesterday was all I dreamed it would be and more. A day full of joy and emotion. I was so happy to be able to share it with my family. The sweet call from the DH right before Barack took the oath made my day.
The president’s inauguration speech was a call to arms for all of us that could not be ignored. I loved it when he said it was time to put away childish things. Amen. Time to grow up everybody. Stop being petty, put childish differences aside and do what you have to do for what is right. And how happy am I that fashion is BACK! Michelle hit it out of the park. I thought she was so beautiful in her Isabel Toledo walking suit. That golden color out shined everyone. And the woman can even accessorize with color well. She may even get this New Yorker in color looking that good. Maybe.
And her white Jason Wu ball gown was ethereal. She was floating as they danced to At Last sung by Beyonce at the Neighborhood Ball. This had to be the most romantic presidential dance yet. A collective Aww… heard around the world. With the champagne flowing in my house I had to get up and dance too, pulling the DH and the DS to dance with me. I could not contain my glee and the Dear Son could not stop laughing at me. Oh well.
The hard work is ahead in so many ways but I’m feeling so inspired. How about you? I hope I’m still a little giddy when I go back to regularly scheduled posts.Best,
KwanaP.S. What to keep the good times rolling? Check out this video thanks to Sula by Will. I. Am. Thanks Sula!
The American Dream
What’s Jack up to? I’m afraid I’ll not have Jack calmed down until the Dear Twins are back in school. Jack is having a fine time chasing the DD around the house and snapping at her toes today. When he’s not doing that he’s roughhousing with the DS. No sweet little lap dog is he.
The DNC has begun and as I thought I’d be, I was riveted. The first night did not disappoint with Michelle Obama giving the keynote speech. I don’t think a potential first lady has given a keynote speech at a national convention so that in itself is historic, but besides that the fact that it was a Black woman giving the speech made it that much more so.
I didn’t expect to be as emotionally moved as I was, but there you have it. I could not take the smile from my face or account for the great sense of pride that I felt for women, African-Americans, my children and even my country. Count me as one of those teary eyed Black women at the end of the speech. Could we actually be here in 2008? Finally. It was a wonderful heartfelt speech that showed her heart and her fabulous mind. That Barack is a lucky man. Must be some good judgement there to choose Michelle. I say the more women in politics the better!
Best,Kwana
