TV Talk
What’s Jack up to? Right now he’s being a sweetie and sitting by my side enjoying the fire. Toasty hmm, Jack.I’m chiming in Late on Survivor this week. check them out, not working so hard. Tough life, eh?It was a good episode with a nice last minute twist with taking Mary out. Poor Mikey, he was totally side-swiped on that one. I know it was a long lonely walk back to their sad little camp.Buh-bye. Mary
Even though Kathy is super annoying and at times sadly ignorant she has a sweetness that’s growing on me. I kind of want to see her stay around a while. That said, if her team loses next week, she’ll be on her way to homesville.Seeing what happened to Mary and Mikey, these other couples had better watch out. Ozzy and James are you hearing me? Do a handstand or something and get your blood back to your brains where it belongs. On another note what’s up with the people never being able to make fire? Come on. Once you get the call that you’re on the show don’t you think you should grab some flint and get to learning?Pluh-ese.So, I’m still hanging in there with Lipstick Jungle. The setting and wardrobe is just too fly.
Although I’ll admit as far as the story goes, Wendy, the Brook Shields character has grown on me. She’s doing a good job playing the over taxed working mother. Showing strength and vulnerability. The other two, not so much. Life is just way too easy for them.
Come on who gets dressed like Victory (love the dress by the way) and breaks out a bottle of wine to work from home after her business has crashed and she’s just let go of all of her employees? Who?
And Nico, am I supposed to really feel for her, having that affair? If you’re doing it do it and have a blast. I just can’t feel sorry for you while you’re lounging on the floor having your photo taken by your boy toy. You’re a big executive, do you really think they are not going to come back to haunt you? Although props on the snakeskin bag. Let’s follow the steps shall we?1. We’re working, we’re working busy day. No time to spare.2. Hi, ya cutie.best,

Gena Showalter- Interview with a star
What’s Jack up to? Why he’s resting up for the holiday weekend. Don’t party too hard, Jack. I don’t think I can keep up.

Today I’m honored to be interviewing New York Times bestselling author (and fellow agency sistah) Gena Showalter!

Gena’s newest book in her Alien Huntress series Savor Me Slowly is out now and her contemporary women’s fiction novel Catch A Mate has been released in mass market as well as audio book form. To top things off her teen alien huntress story Red Handed has been optioned for TV. Wow!
Hi, Gena thanks for being here. It’s a real honor.Thank you so much for having me!! I’m thrilled to be here.
1. First off a traditional question. What made you want to be a writer? It is something you always knew you’d do?I began playing around with my own stories in junior high, but soon learned that crafting them was a little too much work for my fourteen year old self. It wasn’t until I began bouncing around from one major to another in college (all in the medical field, strangely enough) that I realized writing was my true love and it was the only thing I could see myself doing for the rest of my life.
2. Tell us about your road to the New York Times Bestseller List. Were you an ‘overnight’ success?I wish I could claim to be an overnight success, but it took me about ten years. First, I had to write seven books before I sold one (most of those books will never see the light of day). And I did not make a single list until my. . . eleventh release, I think it was. The Nymph King turned out to be my breakout novel. And to think, when the hero of that book first appeared in one of my books, he wasn’t meant to have his own story. He had other ideas, though, and I’m so glad he did!
3. I’m amazed at the amount of books you have published and the amount of books to come. Your upcoming release link on your website take us to May 2010, when we’ll all have a spaceship of our very own! What’s your typical work day like? What’s your discipline? Do you write 24/7 to get it all done?My writing schedule seems to change with every book. Used to, I wrote the rough drafts long hand in about 3 weeks, writing seven days a week until it was done. Now, I write a chapter a day, five days a week, until the rough draft is done. That usually takes me a month and a half. Then, I read over the book, adding everything I missed the first go round. Then, I read over it again to make sure everything flows smoothly. The entire process takes about 3 months.
4. You write in many different genres: paranormal, contemporary women’s fiction, urban fantasy and young adult. How do you change genres in such a seemingly effortless way? Come on tell us, do you love all your babies equally or are some more of a challenge to raise than others?
Changing genres keeps me from burn out because each genre taps into different emotions. My contemporaries tend to be lighter, funnier. My paranormals have become darker, more sensual, more emotional. The young adults bring out the kid in me.
Of all those genres, though, the paranormals are my favorite. Especially the ones I’m writing now. The possibilities are endless. Anything I can think up, I can write.**Bonus question from a fan (my daughter). Growing up were you anything like your character, Jade in Oh My Goth? What inspired you to write her?
My junior high years, I was indeed a bit like Jade. Wore black, dressed punk, rocked out. (I feel so weird saying that now LOL) So when I sat down to write Oh My Goth, I wanted to show the struggles of someone who is considered a freak but wants so badly to be happy with who and what they are. (I was often called Casper, Ghost, Mustache Girl) Though don’t get me wrong. In high school, I became more like Mercedes: captain of the cheerleading team, rude to others.
Now, when I think back to the girl I used to be, I can only shake my head in wonder. I’m so different, almost as if my personality was cut up into little pieces and put back together out of order.5. What’s one piece of writing advice you’d like to give aspiring authors?
Write the book of your heart. Never write to trend. Because, by the time you finish, the trend will be over.
6. What can we look for next from you?

I am so excited to launch my new Lords of the Underworld series (May, June, July 08) They features immortal warriors who opened Pandora’s box, releasing a horde of evil demons upon the earth. Now, as punishment, each warrior carries a demon inside himself.Maddox, the hero of The Darkest Night (May 08) is the keeper of Violence. He’s been cursed to die every night, only to awaken the next morning knowing he has to die again. Lucien, the hero of The Darkest Kiss (June 08). Reyes, the hero of The Darkest Pleasure (July 08), is the keeper of Pain and is forbidden to know pleasure.
Once again, WOW! Thanks so much for being here and I can’t wait to pick up the next book(s)!
Thank you for having me!!

Blogging Project Runway- down to the wire
So it was down to the wire at Project Runway.
I loved opening with Chris in his old man robe and watching Christian do an extra special job with the flat iron. Fierce. Little Miss High Maintenance. Finally a challenge using art as inspiration and they are in my favorite place (see 6 unimportant things about me) The Met! Yes! I’m in design heaven and to be there alone when it’s not full of tourists. What a dream.Christian being such a little show off pain in the butt. Eww, but funny and there is no denying the boy can sew.And Christian made his model look just like him! So sweet. I love to watch him get critiqued. He finally gets humble. Love how he pranced off.Now Chris sleeping? What up with that? Then arguing with Tim? Suicide. I’ll say it, I was nervous. But should have known it was not to be. His design was wonderful although he should have followed Tim’s advice and made that bow bigger. He may have won if he did. What’s up with that gold fabric Jillian? Yeech!Rami too much with the draping, predictable and not over the top enough. Come on! I’m bored already. Now Sweet P, pla-ese, come on. With a peacock theme you could have gone all out and should have. This was the finals. Bring your ‘A’ game baby! Now I’m soooo confused? Sweet P out, but they did the switcharoo and had her show at Fashion week to throw me off. Very sly PR. What a way to keep a secret. So Rami’s out right (cut to me grinning)? No, it’s Rami in? In what? I don’t get it. Dead locked. What the heck is that? Chris was clearly better. Send drape boy home! Oh judges, please, if that’s the case keep Sweet P in too. Ugh.
I’m calling a flag on the play. Whatever that means. See you next week for the reunion.Best,KwanaLove?
What’s Jack up to? Ugh. Jack gave me the most awful and stinky Valentine’s Day gift ever which I stepped in TWICE! What’s up with that dude? I got you a nice chew toy.On a sweeter note:Happy Valentine’s Day DH! You are the best andI Love You Forever.

KwanaP.S. PR recap coming up. What tha-!?
Knit one and one and one…
What’s Jack up to? He bummed about the terrible weather and being stuck inside. Sorry Jack.
It’s knit Wednesday. Last week’s Knit Wednesday got moved to Friday. It was hosted by the lovely PVE. As you can see here, her artistic flare is evident in all she does. And this weeks got derailed by a snow/rain storm and school delay. Oh well, it should be a good writing day.
I finished my ribbon scarf from that wonderful Colinette Giotto yarn. I think I like it. That’s always the way with me once I finish a project. But this is what I wanted, a long skinny scarf that I could wear with tee shirts. It’ll do the job.
So now I’m at a knitting crossroads. I’ve got a sock on some needles that I’m not too excited about knitting, but I am excited to wear, so I need to knit them. I should have tried them in a pattern. But really the problem is I want to start a new project. Something that will not be too hard, but look hard and will bring me into the spring. But do I really want to do a whole sweater? No. Hmm, maybe a shrug? I’d love to try one in a fancy stitch. Now there’s a possibility. Time to hit the books.Best,
KwanaUnimportant me
What’s Jack up to? He’s feeling frisky today and making an annoying game of running off with my slippers. So I’ve been caught again.
Maureen tagged me for this 6 unimportant fact about me meme. Thanks Maureen.Me, unimportant? Now who’s gonna believe that? Oh yeah, just about everyone I know 🙂
But still it’s kind of hard since me like everyone pretty much thinks that everything about them is important.Well it’s not. So here goes:The rules are:
1. Link back to the person who tagged you.2. Post the rules on your blog.3. Share six unimportant things about yourself.4. Tag six random people at the end of your blog entry.5. Let the tagged people know by leaving a comment on their blogs. Now 6 unimportant facts about me:
1. I love a good BLT on white with Hellman’s mayo. Don’t go trying to pass off that other sweet stuff, I’ll know.2. I can’t stand the taste or smell of mint.3. I was taught high-school English by Pulitzer Prize winner Frank McCourt.4. Stealing the idea from Maureen: I love the word vexed. Could it be because I’m always vexed?5. One of my favorite places in New York is the Egyptian Gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art by the big reflecting pool and looking out on Central Park.6. Another favorite place of mine is the garden at The Cloisters Museum in Washington Heights where I grew up. I’ve always admired the Unicorn Tapestries and was enthralled by Tracy Chevalier’s The Lady and the Unicorn.

Here’s a video of Malan’s latest collection shown at Fashion Week. How much do I love Malan? He’s from another time.
Dreams of the heart
What’s Jack up to? Today he’s being and sweetheart and doing his best to be a model lap dog. Sitting by my side and not even messing with the keyboard while I type. Good dog, Jack! Now, are you feeling ok?
What is it about Romantic comedies that we girls love so much? I mean honestly, you walk into the theater knowing the ending before your first bite of popcorn. But still, we gush and smile and get all melty inside as some girl goes through all the emotions we daydream about in ninety minutes.I know I’m little late to the reception, but this weekend I saw the movie 27 Dresses with my daughter. I’m not going to give a movie review because, really, do you care what I think? Me, more than anyone else, knows that art is subjective. That said, it was just what the doctor ordered. A cute romantic comedy to make you walk out hoping for happily ever after. A perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
But it sort of made me think, is this the feminist way? Should I be taking my daughter to see these stereotypical views of what a woman should want? Of what love could be? Make her think that she can find happiness in the arms of a man? My answer is, sure. Why not? As long as I school her about self respect and not being blind when it comes to love, then it’s all good.
If not for the great romance story, she may grow up thinking that relationships should be all blinged and sexed out like a rap video. No long walks, no late night conversations, no long gazes and definitely no hand holding.
I say let her dream that love is real, because it is. Sometimes you just have to suspend cynicism for a moment and let your heart show you the truth.
All this is to say, that I’m starting a new book and it’s shaping up to be a romantic comedy. Me, a comedy? Hopefully I can keep my own cynicism in check!
I actually dreamed of the concept in my sleep, woke up and immediately pulled out my notebook because I was so excited. It’s something different from anything I’ve ever tried. But right about now, my heart and mind really wants to believe in the happily ever after. We’ll see how it goes..
