It’s Got A Good Beat And You Can Dance To It

Happy Fab Friday People! Well, another week has flown by. What’s up with that? The calender says Spring. There are even crocus cropping up here and there but the thermometer here in New York clearly did not get the memo.

Yesterday I was doing the mommy afternoon drive thing with the DD. Joy and fun with teens right? And when this happens you lose all control of your car radio especially with my girl. Cut to me cringing with the rapid fire speed of the station changing.

So this is what’s playing in my 15 year old’s ears and subsequently what’s playing in my ears too right about now. I can’t deal with some of her music, but some I really do like. And hey, she does go for a lot of my 80’s stuff and she gets Prince. The girl has some good taste. In honor of Fab Friday and Simply Seleta Enjoy some Fab teen/mom questionable bonding music.

    Feeling Spry-Not

Owwwie! Well The back pain is back and now I’m feeling and moving like I’m a hundred and fifty years old. Ugh. I can barely think straight so in honor of feeling old I’ll leave you with a couple of songs that always make me feel happy and young. I hope you are having a good day.

    Savannah Buzzing in My Ear

What’s Jack up to? Oh, being Just Jack! You know how that goes.

When I was a kid, of all of about 8, my mom and step dad had a bar/disco on 125th street in the heart of Harlem. It was quite the spot for it’s time.

Well, one of my favorite things to do was go by in the afternoons, serve myself an icy Pepsi with two perfect cherries on top then beg my mother for quarters from the register for the Juke Box. She knew what was coming next. Everyone knew. It was time for Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah band!

Oh, how I loved these songs! I drove the bar crazy with them. I can still see the eyes rolling now.

Hmm… I wonder if it had anything to do with me eventually marrying a man from Savannah. Hey, you never know how these thoughts get implanted.

This weekend while looking for a song I had heard and was liking a lot, I ran across them again in iTunes. I figured out that the reason I loved the song was because Cory Daye had sung it with The Band back when I was a kid. So it was already deeply implanted on my heart, somewhere on the ‘B’ side. I had just forgotten about it. Funny how those things happen huh?

And don’t you just love Cory’s style and attitude. So much cooler than some of the polished girls of today don’t you think?

What is some of the music you loved as a kid? Do you think it had any influence on who you became as an adult?

    Sing to Me Bettye

Happy Friday! I hope you all have a nice weekend planned. There is talk of above freezing temperatures in New York so yippee! Break out the flip-flops.

During the pre-inauguration celebrations my DH and I noticed for the first time this woman, Bettye LaVette singing with Jon BonJovi. We were wowed by her voice so I looked her up and got some of her music from the library. I came to find out that she has been singing for over 40 years. Talk about being late to the party. I am so loving Bettye. I can hear so many stories in her voice. Check her out then and now. I particularly like the middle song. You never really know who you’re sitting next to.
You can find out more about Bettye here. Enjoy.

    The Music is Not Dead

What’s Jack up to? Right now he’s sleeping ever so sweetly after running around the house like crazy dog for the last 3 hours while the twins had friends over for their birthday. I know Jack all that entertaining is exhausting.

So on my Dear Daughter’s i-Pod wedged between him:

    and him:

    was him:

Taken from my playlist. Nice. Makes me feel like I’m doing something right as a parent. Of course she also knows all the words to Musical Youth’s ‘Pass the Dutchie‘ too. Eek!

Sidebar: How about that Miracle on the Hudson? Amazing. My mouth was hanging open as this was breaking news. I’m glad I wasn’t driving down the west side highway during that time as I’d have surely crashed from the shock. The pilot is a real hero (and the best pilot ever) and once again I’m so proud of the super fast New York responders. Even on water they can’t be beat. I just love New York!

    Back to The Future

What’s Jack up to? Jack has been such a trouble maker. Sneaking up on the table and eating the DH’s pork ‘n beans right out of his bowl when the DH’s back was turned. Jack you little devil! Ugh!

This post here from my writer/blogger bud YA author, Melissa Walker made me happy. It seems this is a New York Times kind of week, but this article where Melissa was featured for her record collection brought a smile to my face because it took me back to a more innocent time. Check out the full article here.

Vinyl, roller disco, that faint scratchy sound and the love of the hunt how fun.

I love the idea that record sales are actually up in these dark days. I’m so glad the DH still had his albums in the basement. I’m ready to dust them off and am envisioning a party room redo. It’s nice to think of lazy Saturday afternoons searching for the perfect album. Something the dear twins have never done. I’m glad the idea is not dead.

What albums would you search for?

Yep, A Change is Gonna Come

What’s Jack up to? Jack is full of life this morning. Jumping around at everyone’s feet. He’s all full of energy and ready to play. Ok, Jack I’m in!

I heard Seal on the radio yesterday morning and stopped dead in my tracks at this perfectly timed remake. We have to believe.

    Motivation

How fab is she? This protege of Big Boi of Outkast, Janelle Monae actually kept me on the Dreadmill a full minute past my normal running time.

I love her fresh Grace Jones quality.

So who are you listening to?

    Merriment

So I was all ready to sit down and write some really profound post for the day (Hey! Stop laughing) when I get a call from this temptress down the street.

“Hey”, she says all sweet and innocent. “Why don’t you guys come on down the block? We’ve got our other buds here just having some grub and vino.”

Hmm, I think I’ve already had grub, but I could use some vino and I really like those other friends too, but I’ve got so much laundry to do and I’ve been out all day. I know I’ll just stop by with the DH for a few minutes- ½ hour tops.

4 hours later after much vino, more grub, music and merriment we roll back into our house.
I guess the holiday season had begun!

This one is for you friends.

Oh and TWILIGHT is done. Yeah, I have been bitten.

    I Likie

What’s Jack up to? It’s pouring today and he’s wandering around the house as sleepily as I am. Ah, Sweet Jack.

This is just because I really like them. Don’t you?
