    Focus

What’s Jack up to? Jack is hoping for the weather to warm up a bit for longer walks. Could winter really be coming up on us so fast. Brrrr!

Oh boy are my legs burning! So I checked it out and yep, the gym is still there, but I already knew that. Crap.
Only that cute Mel could get me into this mess. Her smooth words and silky charm took me over the edge and actually got me on the Dredmill twice in one week. I’m paying for it now though with Legs O’ Fire. I’m following the Couch potato to 5K plan which seems pretty reasonable for a runner hater like me. Let’s see if I can actually make it stick. If these legs don’t stop burning I don’t know.

My mind is twisting in a million different directions right about now with the Dear Teen Twins, DH, the house, housework, my writing, dieting, exercise, finances (or lack thereof) and the election about 2 minutes away. UGH! I find it tough to focus on just one thing. Of course that’s the Gemini in me too.

Lists help though and breaking the day off into chunks otherwise it can easily turn into a big lump of nothing.

I find that music helps to get me moving when I really slow down. My music guru, the PIC, introduced me to Van Hunt a while back and he’s been fave ever since. Check him out.

What do you think? What are some of your tricks to stay focused?

    Best,
    Kwana

    P.S.

What did you are think of the Not So Real Housewives of The ATL? Was it cool for Kim to diss NeNe? I think not.

Oh and Scroll down if you missed the NJ conference talk.

    Just Fine!

What’s Jack Up to? Right now Jack is whining at the basement door. Should I take that as a hint he’s is no longer interested in watching the Yankee game with the DS and wants to hang with me? Can I get a moments rest? No. Oh well. That’s life. BTW I’m way sad over the ending of Yankee stadium. Part of my childhood is now gone. Big tear.

At the end of last week with all the market turmoil, constant political crap and the Dear Teens sometimes making me want to pull my hair out I was feeling deep in a cynical rut. Which is honestly is not a far from my norm. Not to mention I didn’t totally agree with who got out Aufed on Project Runway and Top Model last week. UGH!
But after church on Sunday I walked out feeling just fine. Shoot, God didn’t promise a life without trials, right.

So during my many errands I rolled down the windows popped MJB (Mary J Blige) in the cd player and hit the gas. Hard.

Do me a favor, try and not stress too much this week. It’s all going to be just fine. Do what you gotta do and Crank it up!

And Happy Birthday to Ma! What can I say? Much Love. K.

    Freaky Friday

What’s Jack up to? Oh just being so Jack. He totally stole half a slice of pizza right from under my nose when I turned to grab a paper towel. I couldn’t even get too mad. I didn’t need that pizza anyway. Darn Jack.

Happy Friday. I don’t have much to say on this lazy summer Friday so I’ll leave you with this bit of fun. Enjoy, but please don’t judge this child of the 80’s. I liked my boys made up and accessorized back in the day. Much love!

    ATA Coming Soon

What’s Jack up to? He’s all feisty and barking at me this morning because I’m not getting his food to him fast enough. The nerve. Is he learning from the Dear Twins?

Ask The Agent is coming soon. Sorry for the delay. Check back later. In the meantime…

    More Changes

What’s Jack up to? He’s happy it’s the weekend and just chilling while sporting his cool new haircut. I’ll have him pose for some pics as soon as I can get him still.

I’m still thinking about my Changes post from a few days ago and would love to keep it going. If you’d like to read the original post please check it out here. The comments really got me thinking on life and how it evolves. So I’m posting the question again and for a little fun putting up some videos that were on and poppin’ in 1988 when they still showed video on MTV. These are all songs I loved at that time.

I still want to hear your answers to the the Changes question. Please join my little writing exercise. Here it is:

How similar is your life to how you imagined it ten or twenty years ago? Is it how you thought it would be or are you constantly asking yourself how did I get here? Do you mourn for the unfulfilled dreams? (Pioneer Woman said unrealized plans) or are you happy no matter what the circumstances? Oh Life!

Have a great weekend. I’ll be doing the baseball thang (how much can one woman drive?) and hanging with the DD while she tries to convince me that Lil Wayne is a real hottie and compare him somehow to my Prince. Honey Pla-ease!

    I’m no soccer mom

What’s Jack up to? I’ve decided Jack has way too many stuffed toys. Every time I turn around he’s underfoot with another toy for me to play fetch. Who has who trained here?

I’m trying to come to terms with my soccer mom, well baseball mom, status. My DS is on a travel baseball team this summer that has me constantly up and down the road. Ugh! Now it may not win me any prizes, but I really no soccer mom. Most times when I’m at the field my nose is usually buried in a romance book or I’ve got my lap top out and I’m hiding in my car. I just don’t quite fit in with the other Ubermoms that know all the kid’s names and the stats and have extra waters, Gatorade and ice packs at the ready. I never quite have it that together. Sue me.

Oh well. We all have our gifts I guess. To that end on the way to a game the other day I was feeling very 80’s and played this for the DS over and over while I sang at the top of my lungs. He laughed and tied to out sing me.

I think for today’s game we may rock this (thanks Megan):

I may not be a baseball mom but I know good music. That should get me some points. Right?

    Time to Just Say No

How saddened was I by the story that Amy Winehouse has emphysema and will lose her voice or even die if she does not give up smoking drugs.

Amy give up the drugs already!

I think I’ve said it here before but her Back to Black album has been my favorite so far this year. I listen to it constantly. But from the very beginning I could hear the genius and the tragedy in her voice. She totally reminds me of Billie Holiday and that scares me.

Here is the video clip on my favorite song from Back to Black. Tears Dry On Their Own. I bet you can guess my fav line. Oh, because of said line it’s not for the kiddies. Sorry.

Sidebar: Don’t you just love the look of this directed by David LaChapelle?

    My Ears Are Ringing

What’s Jack up to?Being Lil Jack. Ya know, wild and crazy. Happy it’s Friday. Not that that means much to Jack.

So my always up on the new music writer friend surprised me and dropped this early b-day gift in my in-box. I was too happy. Adele’s voice has been haunting me in the best way for days now.
    Let her haunt you too.

Darn these Brit girls. They are rockin!

    Hey Mr. DJ

What’s Jack up to? He’s spending the morning running around in circles today? Is that a sign of nuttiness? I think it may be. At least on my part for getting a nutty dog.

So I got this great RWA workshop tape from a friend of mine on Deep POV with Suzanne Brockmann from the 2003 National Conference. I was so excited to get it in the mail and get to hearing what Suzanne had so say. So a go to pick up my little portable boombox and notice for the first time that it has no cassette player. What the?

Now I have plenty of cassette tapes in my house from days gone by, but here’s the kicker. My DH got a new car a couple of years ago and it only has a CD player and now my car only has a CD too. What the heck am I supposed to do?

I head to the basement. There has to be an old Walkman somewhere in this place. I’m digging though boxes and dust is getting everywhere and no cassette player is turning up. Craps!

I head to the streets. They laugh at me at the better electronics stores. And look at me like I’m a little crazy at the discount stores. I was starting to feel like I had to head to eBay. Then the ever resourceful DH came home with paydirt yesterday! For 7.99 he found one at an obscure computer store that sold all sorts of outdated things. The strange thing is that it was actually made in 2007. Funny, huh?

Now I’m excited about all the good music I can listen to while walking down the street with my big Walkman and thoroughly embarrassing my kids in the process. Way Cool!
What would you listen to if you just got a new Walkman?

    best,
    Kwana
P.S Check out the train wreck reunion show of The not so Real Housewives of New York City tonight. I hear the fur was literally flying onstage and off.

    Soundtracks for life

What’s Jack up to? Saturdays mean nothing to Jack when he wants to go out. He’s up early and nudging the DH to go out. He came to my side of the bed and was disappointed when I wouldn’t budge. Sorry, dude I’ve got ten more minutes of sleep in me.

I have to say I was late to the whole Amy Winehouse party. I didn’t get her album Back to Black until after she won at the Grammy’s. And how ghetto fab was her acceptance speech? “To my Blake-iee In-car-ser-ated!” Oh girl!
That said, boy am I glad I got on wagon. Talk about a well deserved win. I don’t care what Ms. Natalie Cole says. It’s a music award, not a morality award. And besides if I’m not mistaken Ms. Natalie had her fair share of life’s tangles. Pot to kettle….

I love the album from start to finish and have a feeling it will be a big influence in what I’m writing next. Something dark, sexy, smokey and a little dirty. Thanks Amy! I’m rooting for you to get it together girl!

Tell us does certain music inspire you to work or live a certain way? What are your soundtracks for life?
