    Vet Me!

What’s Jack up to? Right now Jack’s growling, at what, I don’t know. The wind maybe? Who knows, maybe my collard green thief is out there (see below). I’m glad I’ve got Jack on the scene.

This week is the RNC convention. I can’t help but wonder how I got overlooked for the the VP job. Oh, I know I’m not with that party, but I am of the right gender. That should be enough, right? It seems to be.

I’ve got to remember to throw my hat into the ring next time.

Let’s see: I’m a woman and I’m pretty sure with a little support I could become mayor of my small town. I’ve been in the PTA for many years, done my time as a baseball and a dance mom. I’ve got my passport and on the plus side done some international negotiations of my own in actual foreign countries so I’ve got a leg up on on the current VP pick there. Shoot my resume is solid! Why wasn’t I vetted? The whole thing has me perplexed. I even wear snazzy glasses. Yeesh.

    America’s Promise- History is Made

What’s Jack up to? Oh, that Jack was really naughty yesterday. Just when I said he was being nice too. The DD let him off his leash for a second to switch leashes to take him for a walk and he took off running up the block after two much larger dogs that went by a few minutes before. Darn Jack. They could have taken his head off. I told you he had a Napoleon complex. Luckily, they just laughed at the little dog running up to them talking trash. Whew!

So, did you watch? I sure did!

Last night I watched Barack Obama accept the nomination for President of The United States along with Nana and my fourteen year old African-American DD (dear daughter) and DS (dear son). I could not lose my smile. What a proud night! Sadly, the DH was still away on business, but called us to show his spirit.

It was so wonderful watching it with my grandmother who admitted that she never thought she would get to see Black man come this close to the presidency in her lifetime. She cried with happiness at being able to see it with her great-grandchildren. I hope that they realize just how remarkable and significant it is. They are now living in a new age. My two babies who share a birthday with Doctor Martin Luther King are a big step closer to his Dream. Our Dream.

photos from cnn, msnbc and yahoo

The speech was amazing. I heard it called by some hard nosed commentators a symphony. I’ll agree. One of my favorite lines of the night was when Barack said, “change doesn’t come from Washington, it comes to Washington.” I hear that. My bag is packed. Let’s go!

I don’t know how the other party will respond next week. But Barack has laid it all out tonight.

    Persuade Me

What’s Jack up to? Just being wild Jack. Totally territorial over his closet and snapping and anyone who dare try to get him out without a treat in hand. Just Jack!

The DH is off on business and thanks to the lovely PIC I got to watch the most wonderful version of Jane Austen’s PERSUASION staring Amanda Root as Anne Elliot and Ciaran Hinds as the dashing Captain Wentworth. It was a lovely way to spend an evening. Thanks PIC!

And as for the bottom clip spoiler alert if you have not seen PERSUASION but it perfectly shows the downtrodden but ultimately triumphant Austen heroine. Enjoy. “Anne? Whatever for?” Amazing.

I then had to go and check out the 2007 BBC version with Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones. I don’t know how I missed this during Austen week. Oh well. I’m torn they are both beautiful. How can you go wrong with Austen? All this romance can truly mess a girl up. And don’t we all want just one night more? I know I do. Well, maybe not. It’s probably perfect as it is in our own minds.
If you’ve seen both versions which do you prefer?

Sidebar: Don’t you just crack up over the music selections on YouTube? So inspired.

Political Sidebar #2: Speaking of Persuasion, Hilliary Clinton hit it out of the park with her speech at the DNC last night. A very persuasive speech it was. I wonder if it will do the trick with bringing over the Hilliary supporters that are holding out. It should if Michelle’s last night didn’t. Hillary made her thoughts very clear when she said. “No way, no how, no McCain.” Ouch, Hill. tell us how you really feel.

    The American Dream

What’s Jack up to? I’m afraid I’ll not have Jack calmed down until the Dear Twins are back in school. Jack is having a fine time chasing the DD around the house and snapping at her toes today. When he’s not doing that he’s roughhousing with the DS. No sweet little lap dog is he.

The DNC has begun and as I thought I’d be, I was riveted. The first night did not disappoint with Michelle Obama giving the keynote speech. I don’t think a potential first lady has given a keynote speech at a national convention so that in itself is historic, but besides that the fact that it was a Black woman giving the speech made it that much more so.

I didn’t expect to be as emotionally moved as I was, but there you have it. I could not take the smile from my face or account for the great sense of pride that I felt for women, African-Americans, my children and even my country. Count me as one of those teary eyed Black women at the end of the speech. Could we actually be here in 2008? Finally. It was a wonderful heartfelt speech that showed her heart and her fabulous mind. That Barack is a lucky man. Must be some good judgement there to choose Michelle. I say the more women in politics the better!

    Pick Me! Pick Me!

What’s Jack up to? As I’m writing he’s in a growly mood. Giving the business to anyone who dares walk by our house today. Oh, Jack showing a strong Napoleon complex today?
So, Senator Obama has made his pick for VP and it’s Senator Joe Biden. Both a safe and slightly controversial pick at the same time if you ask me. I mean kinda of out there to pick the guy who has given you some clearly backhanded compliments and out and out disses, but I can totally see the strategy there. Well played Barack. I just hope some spoil sports don’t get mad, take their ball and go home. Let’s play nice shall we? This isn’t kindergarten. It’s serious business.

    Race On! For Real…

What’s Jack up to? As I’m writing this post he’s still bouncing off the walls at almost 11:00 and I’m the one who’s dog tired. What’s with this picture? I guess he’s pumped about this…

    He’s the Man!

Barack Obama came through with enough delegates to be declared the Democratic presumptive nominee (msnbc’s words not mine). Senator Clinton fought a serious fight and even last night still did not concede or endorse Senator Obama. I hope she will come around and endorse him very soon so that a great race can be run for President.

This is a wonderfully historic event and I am so very proud. Now I will have to change my line to my DD and DS about being the first Black president. Now one of them will have to be the Second Black president. Love that!

I thought his speech last night was so inspiring and at the end when Michelle came out for a hug and kiss and they both said “I love you” to each other, well, I sure got a chill.

    Onward and Upward!

    A change is gonna come…

    Who is The Mole?

What’s Jack up to? He’s feeling a little better and more like himself today after being a bit down yesterday so everybody had better watch out!

So The Bachelorette was on last night and I don’t know if i was just too busy with life to get into it, but it seemed really long to me. But there was there was plenty was over-emotion to go around. The saddest moment had to be when the sweet science geek Richard was sent packing without a rose in the middle of the show. No way. Oh DeAnna! I’m sure Richard will not be hurting for dates now though.

This is the season of themes and the guys played cowboys and got dressed up. Jason came clean about his son and and they all kept hating on Jeremy. It still didn’t matter because DeAnna be hot for him!

In the end there was a sad departure for young Paul and a really funny departure from Ron who is totally delusional. “Um, she didn’t reject me she just picked other guys.” Right. you keep telling yourself that, dude.

Are you The Mole? Well it sure ain’t me. But I’m already liking this show. Now that could have been longer. I just love an action show. How much fun was it that they all got The Mole wrong? And how much to we love that, Nicole, the OBGYN doctor, knows how to bring the drama?

    Is this the end?

Could this possibly be the end of this long primary season? Some are saying, yes. I had mixed feelings about posing this on my blog, because I do really like my senator from New York, but really this is just to funny to keep to myself. Check it out. Thanks DD.

If this is not the end today? Big Sigh. I’m tired and ready for the real race to start.

    This is soooo Major!

Now you all know me and know I don’t go that deep, but this just weighed on my heart and it’s my blog, so hey, I’m posting it here. If you disagree fine, I’ll still love you tomorrow and we’ll still have Top Chef in the morning!

Today, Barack Obama gave one of the most important speeches in at least my lifetime and certainly in my children’s lifetime. He dealt with a subject that not only touched me as a black woman of many mixed races, but should touch people of all races in this country. The video is long, but please watch and really consider your hearts. In the end one thing I know for sure is that we are essentially all the same at our core. Make it work, Barack! And thank you, all my dear true and new friends.

    Rock your vote

What’s Jack up to? So far he’s just chillin’ but it’s still early.
I want to thank all you who were kind enough to give comments yesterday on being a plotter or a pantser. It was wonderful to hear about everyone writing process. What I got from the discussion is there really is no right or wrong way to write. All that matters is that you do whatever works for you to get YOUR story done.

On one of the other group boards that I read there was a pretty heated discussion on writers who read or not read. One brave soul admitted to not reading novels (through no fault of her own) and when she did the opinions flew. It’s amazing how firm folks can be in their opinions.
That got me thinking and what I wrote to the group is maybe we should stop and think what truly makes a good book. Is it the credentials behind the book or is it the story? I think it’s the story and how the story is told. If you have a natural talent for telling a story than you are truly blessed.

Today is Super Tuesday and in 24 states primaries are going on for the presidential nominees. It is a historic vote on the democratic side as democrats choose between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. To me it’s not a bad dilemma to be in. Whatever your choice please me sure to get out and vote today.
If you’d like a laugh check out this new Obama Girl video. I have to admit when the first Obama Girl video came out, I thought she’d hurt more than help. But now with the way Barack has been going in this race, heck, maybe she is super?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4HU_l5u0h4
