Blogging Amazing Race
What’s Jack up to? He’s trying to get out of the dog house for swiping a chicken bone then sprinting away with it, but mostly for going to the bathroom on my dining room rug this weekend! Go to the paper, Jack! The Paper!
First off let me say I love The Amazing Race and have since the first season. The idea of racing around the world is just thrilling to me. I remember when the eliminated contestants used to appear on the old Rosie O’Donnell Show. Wow, how long ago was that? Back in the day when Rosie wasn’t feuding with The Donald or anyone else for that matter.
My all time favorite team were the dating duo of Lenny and Karyn. Poor frustrated Karyn nagged Lenny so much on the race that they broke up. Rosie had to give them two separate trips as their prize since Lenny would not travel with Karyn ever again!
I remember actually downloading the application and telling my DH we should fill it out and try for the show. Well, he wanted no part of that and now many seasons later has the nerve to say to me we should do that. Like it was the DH’s idea. Ha! You had your chance buddy.
Nowadays I don’t know if I have the heart or the butt to repel off the side of a building and have it shot from a bad angle and shown on national TV.So it’s down to the final four for this season. I was so sad to see Kynt and Vyxsin the dating Goths who both touted waiter/receptionist as their occupations eliminated last week. For me they were the last fun left this the season.
Now I’m left with waiting for the father/daughter team to explode or the grandpa from the grandfather/grandson team to say something crazy and off color or Jen and Nathan to have another fight. Will they be another Karyn and Lenny?
This week it should have been buh-bye to TK and Rachel. Where in the heck did they get stuck at for a whole show? Sleeping? They were sooo lucky it was a non-elimination week.
Best,
KwanaBaby, it’s cold outside

What’s Jack up to? Why he’s busy proving himself to be the world’s hardest to train Yorkie by not going to potty outside like he’s supposed to, but waiting to go inside where it’s warm.
Here he is looking spiffy in his new Lands End jacket, which is obviously just for show.Jack, do you think I’m walking around in 20 degree weather for the fun of it?Best,KwanaWeekend knitting
What’s Jack up to? Just chillin’. It’s really a good life on the weekend.
I wanted to share my slow progress on this pair of socks I’m working on. I just love the richness of this Mountain Colors yarn. There’s just something about knitting a pair of socks. It makes you feel so darn smart and really you don’t have to me ‘that’ smart. You just have to be able to follow directions.

I’ve knitted a few pair now (the second sock is always a true test of fortitude) but, so far, this pair here in this wonderful Lang self patterning yarn is my favorite. How fancy am I knitting something like this? No one really has to know that it’s the genius behind the self patterning yarn that makes it come out this way. Hee Hee. Love it. And a bonus is knitting keeps my fingers busy, so I can’t eat. It’s a total replacement strategy.

Oh and I got these clogs just to show off the socks. What a crunchy/granola fashionista I am!

One day I’ll get brave enough to try a pair with a cable. Eek.
Best,
KwanaJack update
What’s Jack up to?
Jack is currently on time out for taking the second when I turned my head to reach up and knock over my lovely dim sum soup. I was so looking forward to that soup too.
JAAAACK!Creativity deffered
What’s Jack up to? See this sweet photo? Now think the opposite. This morning Jack’s at the window barking his head off at every pedestrian, car and delivery truck that happens by.And I’m supposed to work with this going on? Shhh Jack.I’ve decided to put a few inspiration photos here for myself and my DH (notice blatant hint here). What do these beautiful dining rooms have in common? Why, a great chandelier to finish them off. To give that polish that says this is well thought out “done” room. So, I’m on the hunt for a great chandelier of my own. Something to really polish off my room and not break the bank. I’m sure I will find one. Once I get a bee in my bonnet there’s no stopping me.On another inspirational note I’m going to my local RWA NYC chapter meeting this weekend. I love sitting in a room with other writers who are all rooting for each other to succeed. Writing is so solitary and the meetings are a great boost for me. I always leave feeling pumped up and ready to work.Best,KwanaTalking Project Runway
What’s Jack up to? Why he’s resting an relaxing this morning, looking no worse for the wear, after waking the house up at 4 a.m. He was barking for reasons we still don’t know of. It seems suspiciously like he just wanted to play. Ugh, Jack.Last night Project Runway was back with a new episode. I just love Project Runway. Every week it takes me back to my days and nights at FIT, sewing and working on a dress form.I have to say I rolled my eyes when I found out that Hershey’s was their surprise destination. Another candy Challenge? Haven’t they learned from the past? But at least this time they found a candy challenge that didn’t have to be real candy. Can you believe how many pillows were in that store?I do think that choosing Rami as the winner was right. The fit of his dress was just amazing. His workmanship was impeccable. Good for him. I have to say the fact that he can sew his butt off makes me soften a little about the fact that he’s already a pretty established up and coming designer and his outfits have already been worn on the red carpet by celebrities like Jessica Alba. Just a little. I still wish it was a competition for young designers at a real starting out level.
I also have to say I was quietly rooting for Chris and after seeing the close up, I really loved his well thought out dress. Very Warhol-esque but wearable.
I was disappointed that Victorya wasn’t in the bottom two. Yeah Sweet P’s dress was a little boring, but it was wearable. Victorya’s dress to me just wasn’t.
Of course the right person left. Poor, spit marking, living on her own higher plain, Elisa. That brown Greta thing had to take her out. Bye,Elisa. You made for interesting TV.
On a final note. Where would this season be without Christian? Thanks for cracking me up again with those zany zingers and that asymmetrical windblown hair.
Best,KwanaBack to the Grind
What’s Jack up to? Today he’s in the chair at the window, looking sad as everyone leaves to go to school and work and he’s left with just me. Sorry dude.So it’s back to the grind for everyone. On this the first day back to school and work after the long holiday vacation I’ll be doing like mothers all across the country and trying my best to get my house back in order. Christmas decorations to take down, a mountain of laundry to do, cleaning that could take days and the small thing of a book to finish polishing.Everyone left with only a small amount of nagging and disturbance. “Let’s go, let’s go! you won’t have time to eat if you don’t hurry up, did you get your lunch, do you have all your books, what about your instrument, two minutes, the bus is coming, you’ll be walking if you don’t hurry, call me after school, write down all your work, do well and oh, love ya, have a good day.” Whew.On another note: I have been loving this sweater on the cover of Suss Cousins’ Hollywood Knits for the longest time. I think it will make the most perfect black turtleneck. In my dreams it’s bulky, but light weight and I knit it up perfectly making it just the right length for my long torso. In my dreams.
In reality, I’ve only finished three other sweaters (tons of scarves) and they have not have come out as perfectly as I first imagined. Passable, but not quite there. But always the hopeful one, I’ll keep trying.Right now I’m working on a new pair of socks in a very cool Mountain Colors Yarn that a friend gave me as a gift. I have such great friends.Best,KwanaHappy 2008!
What’s Jack up to? Today’s he’s chillin’ after all his late night celebrating to ring in the New Year. What’s a girl to do on one of the biggest days in sports when she’s all shopped out and just wants to veg in front of the TV ,but there seems to be only Football on?Thankfully VH1 saves us with an America’s Next Top Model all day marathon. It’s total veg TV. One of my favorite guilty pleasures. I admit I’m happiest when it’s Wednesday’s night and I’ve got Top Model followed by a bath break and then Top Chef. Bliss. Kids please don’t mess with me.Now, I have to say I was put out by the whole Tyra/Sileisha scandal this
season. I rooted for Sileisha the whole way and was pretty satisfied when she won. But when I actually saw the video tape of her modeling on the Tyra show (modeling Rami’s from Project Runway’s fashions! I’ll post on that later) I was put off. It was just a little too close for comfort. Surely in a whole country full of wannabees they could have found a girl that didn’t know Tyra? All that sad, yeah, I’ll be watching again when cycle 10 comes on. I’m hopeless.Best,KwanaFarewell 2007!
What’s Jack up to? Today he’s busy stealing socks as I’m trying to sort them. Naughty dog!As promised here’s what the return trip to Tiffany bought. I love it. Just the name Tiffany makes me smile and think of Audrey Hepburn. If only I could be half as chic. So, it’s so long to 2007.I find it a bit of a let down that I’m:a) Not flying around in a spaceship Ala: The Jetsonsb)Not partying like it’s 1999- been there done that, I guess.c)Didn’t lose the weight that I resolved to lose last year. Oh well, here I go again. This year I’m gonna:
a)write more and more and more!b)be more organized (it’s a bit sad that I’m snickering as I write that one).c)work out and lose the weight I didn’t lose last year (is it a bad sign that my eyes are rolling on their own with this one?).d)relax and don’t sweat the small stuff (now I’m frowning because this relax thing directly goes against the other three oh well…).So what are your resolutions for the New Year? Care to share?Best of luck with whatever you do.Cheers!!KwanaHappy Launch Party, Wendy T!
What’s Jack up to? This morning he’s eager to run out in the rain and jump all over the man delivering wood for the fireplace. Look out Mister! There’s something so sweet and Waltons about having wood delivered. For a city girl who always lived in a Manhattan apartment it literally warms my heart. I guess there really is something to this suburbs thing.Happy Book Party day to Wendy Toliver! Her first book: THE SECRET LIFE OF A TEENAGE SIREN launched on December 26th and tonight’s she’s having a much deserved celebration. So if you’re looking for a fun read for a special girl check it out. Congratulations Wendy!Best,Kwana
