Happy 4th of July
The Best Year Of My Life..yeah about that…
I can’t stop singing this song. I think it comes from me thinking if it’s not one thing it’s another. So… One way or another… It’s The Best Year Of My Life. Yeah, um, about that… I was just diagnosed with freakin’ rheumatoid arthritis. Sweet huh? But I’m not going to dwell here now the only think I’ll say now is that I will be proactive. More on that later.
Best,
Kwana
P.S.
Happy Birthday to my dear friend Karli!! I love you girl. You’ve been with me since the Easy Bake Oven and that’s a LONG time. Wishing you all the Happiness and sweetness in the world.
They are the world
Deidra from Jumping Tandem asked over at her blog yesterday “where have you seen God lately?” And not a few hours after reading that I was at my niece Maddie’s preschool moving up ceremony surrounded by Joy and for me the spirit of God. Just click the link below and look at this radiant, beautiful, funny, fearless face singing her heart out and I dare you not to smile. (Oh and the boy next to her is so not having it. LOL)

Bangle Jangle
What’s Jack up to? That darned Jack just about scared the life out of me the other day when he darted out of the house and up the block running behind my mother’s car the other day. What did he think that he’d make it all the way back to Harlem? But no he stopped at the big street up the block but all I could think of was a car coming behind his little butt. Ugh. Someone put a leash on that dog.
In the meantime onto lovelier things. Lately I’ve been mad for Bollywood movies, just can’t get enough of them and the influence has traveled to my taste in jewelry. I’m craving bangles. The more the merrier.
What summer accessory are you craving?

No p-p-Poker Face
So I’m watching some of the supreme court conformation hearings yesterday for fellow New Yorker Elena Kagan and realize that though I have strong opinions and ALWAYS believe I’m right, I’d never make it as a supreme court judge because I’d never make it past the interview process.
Why?
1. I don’t do well in jeweled toned brights and
2. There is no way I’d be able to keep such a straight poker face while someone went on for an endless amount of time either for or worse against me. Um, ex-cuse me sir! You said what?
I’d look like Andy Cohen during a Real Housewife Reunion with all my expressions. And yeah my glass would probably not have water in it either.
Tell me would you be able to keep your poker face in this situation?
Have a great Tuesday.
Best,
Kwana
Metro Memories
What’s Jack up to? Poor Jack is trying to catch a breeze just like me. It’s too hot for the dog to do anything but chill where he can.
Happy Monday! So summer is officially here. Today the dear twins go to their summer job orientation (Yay for kids working) and I start on getting into my summer writing swing. Let’s hope I swing big.
I hope you had a good weekend. Me? I heard this song well after midnight on Saturday night while playing Blackjack waaaayyy past my bedtime and it brought back so many memories. Yeah, it was a fun weekend.
Best,
KwanaP.S. Not enough guys with perfect Covergirl coral lips in videos anymore.
Blame It On The Rain
What’s Jack up to? Jack is getting ready for the weekend which no doubt will mean hanging by the DH and hoping for things to drop by the grill.
There are showers expected over the weekend, but like most summer showers in 90 degree heat, they can pop up at anytime. The sky going from a beautiful blue with the sun shining to suddenly darkening and leaving you with puddles at your feet. But in life storms are unavoidable we just have to figure out how to deal with them. How do you deal with the sudden storm? Do you take refuge and run inside or are you like me, and you go out kick off your shoes and feel the rain on your bare feet, taking in all the storm has to give?
Have a great weekend!
Best,
Kwana
P.S. For your weekend viewing pleasure… or not.
A Watched Pot…
Thanks for all your kind advice yesterday on focus and not obsessing. I will take it all under advisement as I of course continue to OBSESS. Eeeee. No really, I’m trying to chill. The whole watched pot thing and all. Besides it’s too hot to be standing over that darned pot.

P.S. in other news my inspiration/dream board fell down yesterday out of the blue. Not much to obsess about over there… right?
Obsession
Is it just me? I know it can’t be. I can’t be the only neurotic nut case out here in bloglandia that can’t seem to walk and chew gum. You see I have a novel out on submission right now and though no matter how much I tell myself, not to obsess, it’s no big deal, don’t get your hopes up, a watched pot never boils… I still do. I can’t help myself.
This is the part of being an artist that I hate the most. The waiting for judgment part. It’s the part that makes me a little queasy in the stomach and the part that makes my writing process so slow. I think it may partially be due to holding off that queasy feeling. You see I should be continuing with work on another project but my mind is focused (I know stupidly) on what I can’t control. The opinions of others and not focused on my WIP. As if by my mind power I can bend someone else’s will. But what I need to do is bend my mind in the right direction so it’s more productive and less obsessive.
It’s a hot mess being in Submission Purgatory. For more on this subject go and read this funny and spot on post by author Kiersten White here.
Tell me how do you get your focus?
Best,
Kwana
I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough…
…And doggone it, people like me!
Feeling very Stuart Smalley today and it’s all because of this little girl. Looking at her makes me want to take up daily positive affirmations.
So how’s your self talk been?
Best,
Kwana
