Looking good Buckaroo- My eye candy review of Buckaroo Banzai

So in my usual state of insomnia last night I was flipping channels and came across

The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.

    Buckaroo 7

A classic gem (and I use these term in the loosest possible sense) from 1984 which brings forth all sorts of questions:

Why was this on my cable TV – I mean I am paying through the nose for premium channels and this is what they come up with? Could we get a little more current Verizon?

What was John Lithgow doing this this thing? But it’s John and he’s been known to make, well, choices and we love him for it.

And lastly, why did I go and see this in the movies, like the actual theater, when it first came out? Was I that desperate for cinema in 1984? Uh… guess that’s a yes.

And the why clearly became apparent during my late-night re-watch. Some of the dudes in this cast were serious eye candy in 1984 and right up my alley:

The first, and seemingly most far fetched (for me), was Peter Weller, but not really though since his styling in this movie was all up and down the Adam Ant Alley which was just my 15 year old thing back then.

And then there was the supporting cast:

Jeff Goldblum as New Jersey, in the most unfortunate costume this side of Pee Wee’s playhouse, but still so very Jeff:

Strong and silent Clancy Brown as Rawhide:

    Buckaroo 2

And that gorgeous Lewis Smith as Perfect Tommy. Talk about perfect use of peroxide:

    Buckaroo 3

And finally can we talk about the glasses? IMO this movie did more for men in glasses than any other. Yas boys!

So tell me in the comments what were some of your fave 80’s and 90’s movie classics.

If you could turn back time… Romancing The Fashionista is here!

Blows horns and throws confetti because today is a release day!!!

I’m so excited to announce that my novella ROMANCING THE FASHIONISTA is out today!

I hope that readers enjoy ROMANCING as much as I enjoyed writing it. It’s a whimsical, sexy and I hope funny romp that takes the reader back in time to the not so carefree school days and explores the hopefulness of a second chance romance.

Like with most of my stories the idea started in a small grain of reality. I call it my ‘BEEP you Facebook’ story as found myself one day being tagged with a way back when photo and wanting to jump though the computer to pull it back and there was the little germ needed for me to get to writing a romance.

    Kwana Before and after 2

Here’s a bit about ROMANCING THE FASHIONISTA:

Manhattan fashion maven and magazine editor Melinda Mitchell shuns the social media spotlight. That is, until a tipsy girl’s night out ends with her first Facebook account and a friend request from none other than her secret high school crush, Nolan Parker.

When Nolan lost his chance at the big leagues, he signed on with Doctors Without Borders and never looked back. Now he’s back home to help out his ailing father. Running into Mel at his fifteen-year high school reunion rekindles old feelings he thought he’d buried for good.

Intrigued by Nolan’s irresistibly sexy profile, Melinda heads to the reunion with her best friend to see if the picture matches up to the man. Their instant attraction flares brighter than the Manhattan skyline.

Although the tough fashionista and accomplished ex-jock rub each other the very right way, a few stumbling blocks will decide if the heat between them is a symptom of forever love, or a past that should be left where it belongs.

    Metro Memories

What’s Jack up to? Poor Jack is trying to catch a breeze just like me. It’s too hot for the dog to do anything but chill where he can.

Happy Monday! So summer is officially here. Today the dear twins go to their summer job orientation (Yay for kids working) and I start on getting into my summer writing swing. Let’s hope I swing big.

I hope you had a good weekend. Me? I heard this song well after midnight on Saturday night while playing Blackjack  waaaayyy past my bedtime and it brought back so many memories. Yeah, it was a fun weekend.

P.S. Not enough guys with perfect Covergirl coral lips in videos anymore.

    Come on Eileen… and Steve

What’s Jack up to?  I don’t want to say it too loud but Jack has been pretty good these past few days. All sweet and snugly and not too demanding and toddlerish. Of course not that I’ve said it on ye old blog he will totally show out today. Watch out for the fireworks folks.

Thanks to all who commented on the Lifted giveaway from yesterday. There is still time to enter today. So please go to yesterday’s post and leave a comment to enter to win a copy of Wendy’s book Lifted.

In honor of my birthday week I thought I’d post things that I like very much. Now I’m sure I posted this song before but hey it’s my blog so I’ll do what I like and post it again. My favorite 80’s tune Come on Eileen.

And in honor of all the disappointment over not hearing Steve Jobs say that the new iPhone would be available on Verizon yesterday I posted this song in Twitter. This goes out to all of us left longing…

    Have a super day!

    Best,

    Kwana

Red Lipstick and a Pink Phone

Thanks so much for all your well wishes on my Good News post. You all are so wonderful. Big props to you!

I’m feeling all 80’s baby today. Young and fresh. And in the 80’s Duran Duran was at the top of my hit list. How much did I want to be a girl in any one of these videos? All red lipstick, pink phones and confidence.

I hope this last week of 2009 is going well for you. Rock it out!

    Best,
    Kwana

    The One Thing

I guess I’m feeling very 80’s today since for some reason and I’ve got this song running through my head. So of course I thought I’d share it with all of you.

So share with me. What’s The One Thing that you’ve got running through your mind today? Enquiring minds want to know…

    Best,
    Kwana

Oh to be Young Again-80’s Babies

What Jack up to? Jack is looking forward to a sunny and warm weekend in NY. Yes! Long walks, rolling in the grass and barking at the neighbors. Happy Jack!

And Happy Friday! Congrats on making it through the week. Whew, made it. With this nutty week it was feeling a little touch and go there for a while.

I’m leaving you all this week with one of my favorite 80’s songs. Who Do You Love by Bernard Wright.

For the longest time I had forgotten about this old classic and then it suddenly one day jumped back into my head along with the video image of Bernard and the pretty girl spinning round and round. I remember this was in the opening scene of the groundbreaking Video Music Box. Does anybody else out there remember that show with DJ Ralph McDaniels? I’m talking to you N and C, R and M!

Well, I couldn’t remember the actual song title or artist and I was obsessed to find out so I got on the phone and called Tower records in The Village and actually sang the song to a couple of workers until I got another 80’s baby on the phone that knew in the first three badly sung words that it was Bernard Wright and I could happily get some sleep. True story.

    Best,
    Kwana
