    Sex and No City

So Wednesday already? How’d that happen?

Oh well that’s how it goes when you get a holiday Monday.  I did what I said and eased into the week by going to the spa for a bit yesterday. Well, you see once again while cleaning I found a gift from the lovey DH that was given to me almost a year ago for my birthday for a massage and a facial and it was about to expire (why do I keep doing that?). Ding dong me I went the whole year stressing and doing for everyone else and almost let this treat for myself slip away. I’m so glad that I didn’t. It was a little bit of heaven and a reminder to stop putting myself last on my list.

This last weekend like a ton of other folks I went to see Sex and The City 2 and sadly like a ton of other folks I walked away disappointed.

It was such an odd thing because I really pride myself on going against the grain of high faulting critics and being a big “go to a movie just for the entertainment” of it type of person. So after getting the DH to come with me to see it (he was one of 3 men in the theater on Friday night) I left trying to convince myself of the finer points.

“Well Samantha was Samantha. She was funny.” I told him enthusiastically as he looked at me oddly.  “And Charlotte looked good in most of her outfits.” Still odd looks and then my mind went to a scene where she’s making cupcakes in vintage Valentino and I had to then turn to my DH and admit “It wasn’t that good huh?”

    “No” he said. “It wasn’t.”

To me this felt like an opportunity to dress the ladies up in inappropriate hats, spice tones and brights and pose them in the desert without a proper story. I mean I’m all for fun and all for fashion but this City girls need a proper story!

Now I’m not trying to discourage you all. Please go and see for yourself. There are things to see visually and parts that are fun. I’m just sad to say Sex without the City didn’t do it for me.

    Sex vs. Fab

Of course like so many I’m super excited about Sex In The City 2, but I can’t help but have some of the same trepidation about it that I had when 1 was coming out. Could it possibly live up to the first? Have that same spark and excitement?

And come on are the ladies in Marrakesh?

Can they possibly be as funny as these ladies in Marrakesh? I doubt it. It’s a tall order.

    What do you think?

    Weekend Round Up

What’s Jack up to? Well he’s gotten into something (maybe it’s all the tissue?) so he’s feeling a little low and quiet today. Let’s see how long it lasts. Maybe until 10:00? I hope he’s back to his old self soon.

    Happy Monday and Welcome June!

It’s my birthday month! The month I love and loathe the most. I put way too much pressure on June. I guess too much pressure on myself in June. But we’ll save that for another post, another day…

So it’s back to the grind. I had a pretty decent weekend. It started really strong. I could not resist going to see Sex And The City on Friday night even though I’m on a writing deadline the darn movie was calling me and apparently every other woman in Westchester county, and from the strong box office, the country. It was packed!

But, I had a ball! It was an estrogen fest in that theater with woman ranging from 20-60 all smiling and happily decked out in their best accessories at our local theater. The thought of all the stressed men ordering pizza with children pulling at their pants legs just made me smile.
It was a gab-fest in the theater until the lights went down and the first familiar tunes of the SATC theme started then there was actual applause. Fancy that! I’m telling you it was like we were all hungry for a sweeter simpler time, a time when we all had hope, better abs and higher breasts!

To me, despite what the New York Times says, the movie did not disappoint. Sure it could have been better in spots but so what. So could anything. I had a a blast! Loved it!

See it with friends. See it with Fans. See it with Fashionistas!
Have fun. Don’t take it too seriously. It’s not about that. It’s about, friends, family and LOVE!

The Fashions were fab-u-lous. I could not stop grinning during a certain fashion sequence. Sigh. What a geek I am! I also just loved the use of white and bright color. Sort of a pop art splash/clash thing going on.

Fans of the show will be glad to know that all the old faves are back and the characters are true to form. I walked away loving Charlotte in this movie. There were some laugh out loud scenes with her.

I can’t wait for it to come on video so I can go over the fashions again and again. Just delicious. Yum!

Then on Saturday I was up bright and early of our church’s annual AIDS walk-a-thon. Thank goodness we didn’t get rained out. We had a nice crowd for a little walk though Mount Vernon. Thanks to our kindly police escorts and to the drivers that we annoyed while holding up traffic. It was for a very important cause. It’s everyone’s issue. Thanks so all my friends for their pledges of support!

Oh, and for you writers and folks of faith and even those of just a little hope check out this blog that writer, Trish Ryan has put up called forty days of faith.

Then it was all writing all the time and still is. I’m way into my new proposal and have to be all about that. Shh… must keep it under wraps. I will say this though. It’s H-O-T!

    So… how was your weekend?

    Best,

To love a Cougar or not? It’s a jungle out there

What’s Jack up to? He’s stealing socks today and hiding in the closet. Ugh. It’s toddler time all over again.

What’s with the cougar in my blog title. Well, I was watching American Idol which I really haven’t followed this season, but it was on while I was scurrying back and forth with dinner so I got into it. While it was on I saw a sign flash that said “Cougars 4 Cook” and I was like, Eww! Now the whole Cougar thing never really crossed my mind before and it’s been out so long that it’s kind of over I think, but in the context of ultra pure American Idol it just seemed wrong and, well, Eww, to me.

Now most us are women of a certain age here. Chime in and tell me what do you all think of the term Cougar?

While I’m at it what do you think of The AI final 3? I like Syesha and think she should win. David A. is too sweet, besides his Dad is already banned and David C. will be just fine no matter if he wins or not, but the judges clearly don’t like Syesha. I don’t get it.

Now sort of still on the “cougar” topic lets talk the Sex and the City premiere and the fashions! Specifically, Sara Jessica Parker’s dress and hat. It’s all the talk with the New York papers. I have to say, I’m not a fan. I feel that she was trying too hard with this one and the color was not for her. Does anyone else remember the episode with Burger and the cooky hat where he made fun of her? This was the same thing! Say it ain’t so, Carrie. Big sigh. I do like Kim Cattrall’s look though.

And, we won’t even talk about the decision of having the premier in London over New York when New York was the 5th star of the show. Whatever. I’ll still be buying my ticket.

So it was goodbye to my spunky little Marissa on Dancing with the Stars. I know she annoyed quite a few this season with all that darn exuberance, but she always made me smile. Buh-Bye Marissa! Good luck with the baby!

Update:I just found out on GMA that her dance partner, Tony and his wife are expecting boy/girl twins (like me!) so good luck to him too!
