Mamma Mia! So many men/books, so little time
What’s Jack up to? He’s having a happy Saturday. Right now he’s in his chilling out spot under my bed. It must be cool under there. Too bad I can’t fit.

Last night about about 2:oo AM I finished Hannah Howell’s Highland Bride. (Yep the DH was not too happy about the light still being on) It was a fun read. 4 stars from Romantic Times. A total escape and it got me happily through a few baseball games and practices with the DS.My lovely agency sistah Kristen got me thinking with her recent blog post about how few book I actually read as compared to how many I used to read. It’s sad really. I used to be a 1 or 2 book a week girl now I’m lucky if I can do 1 or 2 a month. My TBR (to be read) pile is just sick. Not to mention I’m heading to the RWA national conference in a few short weeks where I’ll be coming home with a ton more books that I’ll want to read. What’s a girl to to? I see many more 2:00 AMs in my future.
On another happier note, look what comes out this Friday. I can’t wait to go see this with the DD!
Best,
KwanaHell Week Part Deux
What’s Jack up to? The sweetie is still in the NYC as I write this. I’m on my way to get him in a bit so we’ll see how he is once he returns home. Will he be a Harlem dog when he gets back?
So the DH and I had a lovely weekend filled with good friends, cocktails and lots of food. I’m suffering from a lobster hangover after attending a lobster fest this weekend where I tried to eat my weight in lobster. Ouch! The weekend started lovely and I actually dressed up and and went to a cocktail party at a good friends house. She’s an artist and friend to this blog and super chic and her cocktail party was a lovely summer night event held on her back stone patio.Everyone said it felt like we were in Europe somewhere. Since I’ve never attended a chic cocktail party in Europe I took their word for it and agreed.
Then it was on to the weekend lobster fest where on the first night I proudly held my own at poker with some of my DH’s buddies and represented for the ladies and on the next day and held my own with the lobster. Whew. I’m tired.

Now onto Hell week part 2 with the Dear Twins. Maybe I should start to call them the Wonder Twins. Anybody remember them from the Super Friends? Sorry, side thought.
Anyhoo… I’m reading Janet Evanovich’s Full House . It’s Fun and a change of pace from last week’s historical, but I must admit I have Philippa Gregory’s The Virgin’s Lover and I may have to crack that open this week too. It’s calling my name.
What are you up to this week?
Best,
KwanaTalking Historicals
What’s Jack up to? Hold only your hats. Jack is a city dog for the weekend. He’s gone off with Nana for a couple of days to be spoiled and seduced by the bright lights of the big city. I hope he does well with real heights and doesn’t come home with too much of an attitude.

I thought we’d talk historical romances this weekend and literary escapes. Although I write contemporary I have a big time love of historical romances. BIG TIME!And during Hell Week this past week one one the things that help me get though was Lisa Kleypas’ DREAMING OF YOU. I loved it! I think I got the recommendation from Kristie and Katie at Ramblings on Romance you can check them out here. It’s a great blog and a wonderful resource.
Now I hear from PIC Megan, a wonderful historical writer herself, that it’s a book that brings out strong opinions. You either love it or hate it. I really loved it. It gave me just the escape I needed for Hell Week. Now I need something for Hell Week Part Deux because it still ain’t over yet. Can you believe that? Sigh.
What are your favorite Literary escapes? Come on and share. Don’t be shy. We’re all friends here. I hope.
Best,
KwanaPS- Scroll down for Ask The Agent. It’s a goody!
Saturday Meme – I’m it!
What’s Jack up to? He’s having the Saturday crazies with the kids at home. Extra wildness ensues. Fun huh? Not.Well, Jack won’t be too wild, in fact, it should be fairly sane around here for part of the day since the DH has to work and he’s going for daddy of the year by taking the DD into the city with him for the day and leaving me with little league duty and the DS. It’s cool and I can get some work done if I decide to hang at the field with my laptop. Thanks so much to you all for checking in with Ask The Agent yesterday. If you missed it please scroll down and check it out. It was fab if I do say so myself. So I’m been tagged yet again. This time its by the sly Elizabeth with the page 123 book tag that’s been going around. Here are the rules:1. Pick up the nearest book.2. Open to page 1233. Find the fifth sentence.4. Post the next three sentences.5. Tag five people and post a comment to the person who tagged you once you’ve posted your three sentences.OK here goes…This tag is perfectly timed because although I’m reading, like, 4 books right now, I just came from the library to pick up some books I had on hold and I was so excited to get A Moment on The Lips by Phyllis Bourne Williams my new blog friend whose book I’m going to dive right into. Yippee!!! Do any of you do that to? I’m so crazy.
So, page 123…He gently removed the melting ice cream come from her hand and wiped her palm with a napkin.“The doctors said I had a stroke.”“What?” Grant asked skeptically. That’s it 3 sentences. Don’t you want to know more about this ‘her’ that had the stroke and this Grant dude that’s gently removing melting ice cream cones from her hands? I sure do and I will. Yes!As for tags, This has really been going around so I’m going to leave the tagging to you all. If you care to play have at it. Leave a comment and say you’re tagging yourself. I can’t wait to see who plays. Have fun!Best,KwanaStill Dancing and holding history
What’s Jack up to? Poor thing. He’s bummed about all the rain today. I’m sorry Jack. No long walks today. Maybe tomorrow, Bud.

I recently received the most wonderful and thoughtful gift, which was way too big for the small favor I did and it fits in perfectly with my post yesterday (see below). My lovely friend, Sue hands me a package from her and her DH and I open it and it’s a book called Dear Mrs. Parks: A Dialogue With Today’s Youth in which Rosa Parks answers questions from kids about education and dealing with segregation in her time. I was so touched and thanked her ,telling her I would share it with my kids. It was perfect for me!Then she told me to really look at it. Well, it was actually signed by Rosa Parks herself! How about that! My hands started to shake. Suddenly I was holding a bit of history. It was like I was there for a minute with her on the bus. Truly, gift I will always treasure. Thanks ,Sue and Sue’s DH who is a Dear, dear DH!
So I did get to watch last nights Dancing With The… Stars? It was fun, but maybe I was tired because I enjoyed the men more. I have to first give a thumbs up to Priscilla Presley. Wow. She really surprised me. I got past her whole look and got into her dance and thought she did a great job. I love that Lisa Marie was there cheering her mom on.

Next up was the cute little firecracker Marissa Jaret Winokur. I just love her energy. I think she’ll add lots of much needed fun to the show. I hope she stays around a long time.

The star for me last night was Kristi Yamaguchi, did you have a doubt? She was fantastic and I think will be the standout for the season if folks don’t get lax with the votes like I did last night. I was so tired!
Well I’m off to write! What’s on tap for you day. It’s Wednesday to big night tonight! Viva Top Chef!Best,
KwanaMa-jor!
What’s Jack up to? Enjoying his Saturday with a full house of folks to play with.
Confession time. Not this this will come as a shock to anyone who knows me and probably even those who don’t. I’m a pretty simple girl. I adore things like: realty TV, fried shrimp and chips, romantic comedies and a cold glass of White Zin. That’s me. A simple girl with a dream.
I also always really liked The Spice Girls. Scary was the spice for me and I still love her, even more actually, after Dancing With The Stars and making it through the whole Eddie Murphy fiasco. Ugh. Can you say, “baby papi drama?” As Christian would say, It was a big “Tranny” mess.
But the surprising Spice to grow on me, sort of like, cumin, is Ms. Posh aka Victoria Beckham.

Now, I liked Ms. Vic well enough, even with her scowling and the fact that she’s been known to hike the boobs way way up there sometimes. And I always thought her husband was a real cutie and admired the way she coordinated him perfectly with her stilettos and her Birkins. Come on. Wouldn’t you.
But she
really won
me over last year when she did an NBC reality special. During the special she had a meeting with Blogger/Gossiper Perez Hilton, who had been kinda trashing her. She decided to meet with him face to face which I thought was brave. Victoria stole my heart when Perez asked her if there was anyone in Hollywood that she didn’t like and she looked his straight on and said, Eddie Murpy! Yes. Way to stick up for your girlfriend. Girl Power!
I actually watched the special twice, I enjoyed it so much. Now, I’m happy to find out that Victoria will be doing a show for Fox. Yippee!Right n
ow I’m reading Victoria’s kitchy, but useful book, That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything In Between. In the book she gives important fashion and style advice like. “it’s worth spending more on your accessories as you’ll use them more than most of your clothes,” or “don’t buy anything too small for your figure. If you don’t like the size cut it out. ” Perfect.
It’s a fun read. Major!

What’s Jack up to? It’s the weekend, Baby. Party Time!
Valentine’s day is quickly coming upon us. Are you a hopeless romantic that loves the love holiday or are you a cynic that thinks it’s all a gimmick made up by Hallmark to sell more cards?
I believe that any day that celebrates love wonderful. Whether it’s love for a sweet heart, your fami
ly or your friends. Some of my favorite memories as a little girl were of my normally quiet and sometimes gruff grandfather handing out Valentines on Valentine’s Day. My Nana always got the biggest most ornate box complete with satin and ruffles. He then made sure to have a box for all the girls in the family, my mom, my aunt and then a special little box for me. That small gift always filled my heart with such pride and let me know I was loved.
So don’t fight it, embrace Valentine’s Day and share the joy. It’s bound to come back to you.
Here are a few suggestions for your sweetheart. Feel free to forward to anyone who needs gentle hint!
Something for the girls…
Don’t forget the guys. It’s about them too .

gifts from Red Envelope and Tiffany
And a hot new romance book is the perfect
way to treat yourself
and him on Valentine’s Day.
