Time won’t give me time…
Ain’t that the truth? Thanks for the wisdom Culture Club.
In my ever quest at somehow getting my uncontainable life contained and in some semblance of control, I spent the better part of the weekend reading a fantastic book called Write Every Day by Cathy Yardley. Now you think writing everyday would be easy since I’m a writer and it’s my job… and all.
But hold it there, Sparky, it’s not as easy as one would assume when you’ve got the husband, kids, Facebook, The blog, laundry, Twitter, dishes, The dog, The grocery store, The bank, Twitter, Cleaning well, everything, dinner, pick-ups, errands, family runs, did I say twitter?, oh and the dog needs to run out again all pulling for your attension just because you’re the one there and the one designed to be in charge of all the domestic stuff. Somehow it’s way too easy for the job of writing, that really is your J-O-B to get pushed to the bottom of the list when it should be at the very top. Especially if you want to make a living… and all.
In Write Every Day, Cathy suggests tracking your time for a week to see where what you’re really spending your time on in order to see where you can find more time to write. The challenge is on! It’s time to take a brutal look at how much time I really spend going in circles and clicking on links that have nothing to do with my WIP under the guise of research.

Nana knows best!
So this past holiday weekend we had Nana over and it was all pretty fantastic with us doing the usual … *Chilling on porch, eating lots of good food, playing cards and then eating some more. Like a knitting pattern cycle back to the * and repeat. At one point during our chill fest I put my sweet Nana on the spot and flipped the video camera on my cell phone and asked her to give 3 reasons why people should read BOUNCE this summer.
This is now my favorite endorsement ever! Enjoy.

Happy Monday and sharing Beauty Secrets
Happy Monday friends. I hope you had a wonderful long holiday weekend if you were celebrating the 4th and if not I hope you had a lovely weekend anyway. I had a great time relaxing with family. I chilled hard, laughed a lot and ate maybe just a little too much but it was all delicious so I’m not going to feel bad about it. Now it’s Monday and back to the grind so limbering up my writing/editing fingers.

Feeding the Beast aka Distraction Jackson
Happy Monday! Time to get the grind on, as if the grind ever stops when you’re in the creative arts. But honestly, I’m starting to feel the pressure as the words have not been flowing at a rate that I feel they should be, so grinding right now is what I need to do. Take what I can get and worry about it later. Just get something on the page. Everyday. Don’t overthink. Besides, all that can come later along with the internal editor. She loves that job any way, so why should I deprive her of it?
The problem is it would seem that at this point I’d rather do just about anything but grind it out as I need to and get the words on the page. And to feed the beast of procrastination my good friend, Laura Curtis, was kind enough to gift me with some amazing needlepoint patterns and one of them just so happened to be a perfect match for my very own Jack. Isn’t it amazing? I’m finding it so hard to think of anything else right now but running to the store and getting thread to start on this project. Tell me what are ways that you procrastinate or ways that you don’t? Hmm… yeah, maybe I should start there. LOL

They Say It’s My Birthday!
And a big part of my wants to just sweep it under the rug or at least sweep myself under the covers, curl up go back to sleep and pretend this day didn’t even happen. It’s silly I know and totally wrong. I shouldn’t be focused or worried about the fact that I’m no longer the dewy faced young’un I used to be, in fact I should be celebrating the fact that I’m not. That girl was a hot mess and for the most part didn’t know if she was coming or going most of the time.
Now hold onto your laughter, I can hear it from here. You’re all saying but, Kwana, most days you still don’t know whether you’re coming or going. This is true, but it’s less days than it used to be and that’s a great thing. I may not yet be where I want to be and heck, I may not exactly have a picture of where THAT is, but I do know I’m closer to it than I was a year ago.
I have plenty to celebrate in my uncertainty. I have a wonderful family, great friends, a super DH, fantastic kids and still one terrible terrier. Hey, I’m not one to brag (snort) but when I take a moment to stop and think of the good, instead of focusing on the not so fantastic it doesn’t take long to realize how truly blessed I am (note to self: do this focusing on the good more often).
Happy Birthday to me indeed!
Another thing that’s pretty great about hanging now in the middle of the age pack is that I don’t feel the need to beat about the bush about the things I mean to say or the things I want. You’re not going to find me being all passive aggressive (subtweets aside) (though I was never much for that, maybe the shortest of times in my early 20’s during the odd newlywed stage). But now it’s now pretty much in my head then out my mouth and to that I’ll take a page from my mom and just say what I want for my birthday this year leave out any pesky guessing. The gift I’d like the most is for friends to pass the word on about my work this year past. As still a mostly under the radar author I’d love it if you’d tell someone who doesn’t know me about one of my books. That would make my day. More than that, tell 2 friends, and so on and so on… and it would make my year!
Either way just having you stop by as you have been has made the past year more special than I can say. Thank you for being one of my undeserved, but so thankful for blessings this year. Cheers to a fabulous year ahead.

Me… Out and About
Happy New Week and Happy New Month!
This has been a busy few days with the annual book expo at the Jacob Javits Center. It was a bit tiring but also nice to see so many out and so much excitement going on about new and upcoming books. I was able to snap quits a few pics with my phone so I’ll let another collage do the talking for me here.
It was great to see come of my friends getting to sign copies of their books like Falguni Kothari with BOOTIE and THE BEAST and Eileen Palma with her debut WORTH THE WEIGHT. Also check me with the amazing Loretta Chase and do you see the legendary Ms. Brenda Jackson and Ginger Jamison and is that Tiffany Reisz and Megan Hart? Oh yeah! And down in the corner, yes that is THE Billy Idol. I know, insert earworm here. LOL. We had so much fun. And I’m totally blaming Falguni and Alyssa Cole for the Batman/Spiderman pic. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I’m excited to say that I’ll be signing copies of my books (Through the Lens, Seduction’s Canvas, Threads of Desire & Bounce) this month at The Romance Festival put on by my RWA/NYC RWA chapter and being held on June 14th at the historic Morris-Jumel house in Washington Heights in New York City from 1-4:30. The admission is free and there will be readings from the authors as well as some exciting talks and the books from many NYC authors available for purchase. If you’re in the city on that day please come on out and see us. Check this great line up:

NOLA… a pictorial
So instead of getting all wordy about my time in New Orleans last week at the fantastic Romance Slam Jam Conference and then the incredible RT Book Lovers Convention I decided to let pictures do the talking for me with a few collages.
First up a collage from Romance Slam Jam. I’ll say it here once again… I can’t thank the amazing Farrah Rochon enough for inviting me. I feel like I made so many new friends and I got to speak on my 1st ever panel with the super talented Yvette Hines and Sienna Mynx. Talk about a great moment and one that I’ll always cherish. Not to mention signing next to our keynote speaker Angie Daniels. Holla! I’m already looking forward to next year in Dallas!
Next up was the RT Book Lovers Convention at the Marriott. Wowza! Talk about a grand time. Over 2000 attendees and 700 authors. There are still friends I’m connecting with online that I didn’t get to see in the crowd. But I’m sure grateful for those that I did. Can you spot some of your favorite authors in this group?
I was so happy to have my 1st ever RT signing here and to sit next to the wonderful USA Today Bestselling Callie Hutton. There were so many amazing authors in both rooms and I was proud to be among them. I’ll also be forever be grateful to my friends who came by to see me at my spot and put on their best fan faces for pics. You all are the very best and we had a fantastic time. Thank you all so much. I can’t wait to whoop it up again.
Now where are my shrimp and gravy? I’m starting to feel a little put out after not having them for over a day. Hmph. seems a girl’s gotten a tad spoiled.
