Knit Wednesday
Happy Wednesday. Looking to knit myself right over that Wednesday hump. Or maybe it will be needlepoint today. Either way I’m getting crafty.
Would love these cool needles though. Aren’t they fun?

Growing up Oprah
This is a tough post to write. I went to my TV at 4:00 yesterday, turned to channel 7 and she wasn’t there. And by she I’m sure you all that know me, know I’m talking about Oprah. No, she wasn’t there. It was the news instead, as if I wanted to hear the news an hour early.
So I blinked and let it sink in. Oh yeah, the day before she said goodbye. She told us thanks and to move on and live our own best lives. This 4:00 hour was now time to regroup and find a way to do what was and has been in our hearts to do for so long and be the best at it that we can.
So it’s time to be myself, proud and unashamed, Becoming True Me as I start on life part 3 now as a soon to be mom of college kids. No longer any label but my name. But wow I won’t have my 4:00 anchor that has helped me grow and change so much these past 25 years as I went from a high schooler watching her on television with amazement and awe, to a college aged young woman, still drawing inspiration, into a career woman and wife and then a mother of twins and oh so thankful for the 4:00 advice and a place to draw comfort.
Well, now I have my own high schoolers moving on and moving out and my 4:00 hour is free. She’s said goodbye. The news is on. The news I can’t change.
So I’m turning off the TV and turning on the DVR to say THANK YOU to her myself one more time. Then at 5:00… watch out world here I come!

It’s an Expo People!
For the past two days I’ve been down at the Javits Center walking then hobbling my way through BEA – Book Expo America. The yearly event where who’s who or wants to be who in publishing comes out to show their wares.
What a wild time. The book lives! My back and feet? Not so much. Seriously have I met a book I didn’t like or couldn’t pick up? By day 2 I decided to bring and check my rolling case to carry them all back to my car.
As you can see from the mob scene at the Harlequin booth romance is surely in the air. As I was on line I heard one savvy woman say to a male colleague, “Yes, Blank I read romance.” I gave her a thumbs up as she went to get a book signed by a favorite author.
I saw and hung with so many fun people, The wonderful Sue Grimshaw, Leanna Renee, Katiebabs, Janicu, Young Liberian (Katie my expo pal)! Thanks for the great line chat.
I was so happy to meet one of my favorite authors and twitter friend Victoria Dahl there. She was sweet to recognize me from my tweets and run around her signing table to give me a hug.
I also got the new book from Sarah Wendell from Smart Bitches Trashy Books– Everything I learned About Love I Learned From Romance Novels. I was a lucky one as her books were gone in a flash.
Sarah Signing Katie’s book
I also stood in a crazy long line for Jimmy Fallon’s Thank You Notes Book. Seriously it was like waiting for a roller coaster at Six Flags. But on the up side they handed out the book to those waiting in line so we all had good laughs there and meeting Jimmy was lots of fun.
Another great meet was Mindy Kaling from the office who has a book coming out soon. She was smart sweet and funny. Chatting and taking pictures. Don’t ask me why I stood next to her, what a beauty, but she was so engaging that I fell right in. And my eyes are closed too. Ugh and Sigh.
And thanks to the fab Ellen –Confessions of an It Girl for hooking me up with Melanie- The Coupon Goddess and Rene Syler –Good Enough Mother. And yes, it’s that Rena formally of CBS The Early Show. That Ellen she always knows who will get along with who. We had so much fun walking the floor together and sharing a great lunch.
L to R- Rene, Melanie, Ellen
Thanks to you all my old and now new friends made. I wish I could list you all. Until next time see you on the blog or twitter!

Tweeting Faith and a Front Page Affair
These two things probably have nothing to do with each other except that they are both on my mind and on the blog today so here goes…
As for Tweeting Faith I’d love to have you all click on over to my blog buddy Deidra’s wonderful blog Jumping Tandem and check out my guest post on keeping it real and the connections that can be made through cyber space when you do.
As for the Front Page Affair that is the title of Mira Lyn Kelly’s Harlequin book that I read for Wendy the Super Liberian’s TBR challenge this month. The theme this month was marriage of convenience. And though Nate and Payton aren’t in a marriage in the story they are in an affair of convenience to throw the tabloids off the scent of another secret Nate has hidden. This was a fun and quick read that kept me up way too late at night until I got to the end. I just love it when that happens.
Here is the Back cover blurb:
Payton hasn’t seen Nate Evans in years—not since he used to hang out with her brother in high school. But now she and Nate are guests at the same wedding where the notorious millionaire offers her a wild proposal—a sexy, scandalous and irresistible affair!
Nate’s outrageous proposition was supposed to stay only paper-thin; it was merely a ploy to distract the tabloids from another, all-too-real scandal. But neither he nor Payton expected such a very public affair to prove so very hot in private…
Or to have such lasting consequences….
So question of the day: Is any marriage ever convenient? Answer if you are so brave.

And Just When I Was Getting Bored…
The Real Housewives of NJ premiered last night with a whole lotta hot mess to snap me out of my TV coma.
Oh my, did you watch? I never thought Teresa could come out looking good but to me she’s a princess compared to that sister in law of hers, Melissa and her sister Lysa. What trouble those two are and that brother Joe, oy!
I commend Teresa for walking away from the fight but as for her husband Juicy Joe, how could he walk away after his wife was called garbage? This is going to be some Klassy season. Yikes.

It’s Monday
It’s Friday the 13th and I’ll smile Anyway
It’s Friday… And it’s a bittersweet one. Colleges have been chosen, two separate ones, a few hours away and today is the last day of High School Classes for my Dear Twins. I have to admit, I kind of want to cry. Of course I knew this day was coming but in September it seemed still pretty far off. Boy was I wrong. I should have known, Time runs like a freight train out of control and picking up speed.
The twins will do volunteer work for the next month before graduation in June. I’m sure the Summer will go by quicker than I want and before long I’ll be hugging both and in a fit of tears as I say goodbye at college. But, in the meantime I’ll sing this silly song and just pretend it’s another normal Friday.
Best,
Kwana
Turn That Frown…
