The Healer
So I caved. After a week of feeling lousy I could not take the coughing, stuffiness, back pain and then ear pain any longer and made my way to my doctor.
No, it was nowhere near as dramatic as this. Just a sinus infection and an ear infection. I’m sure I’ll be on the mend soon. I just thought the vintage novel pic from ebay was fantastic.
My DH thanks you all for the lovely birthday wishes yesterday. We had a nice time with just the two of us. Going to our favorite spot at the end of City Island and enjoying baskets of shrimps, scallops and fries right by the sea.
Turns out the warm temperatures in New York brought out the party in everyone else too and the place was as packed as you’d find it on a warm Saturday night in July. Booty shorts and all. Side bar: Some are not ready. Just sayin’
We capped off the evening with a red velvet cupcake that my husband had to practically fight Jack for. Jack saw the candle and swore my bad singing was for him I guess. All in all a very nice night.

In Bed
Sorry to have been so quiet but I have been a bit under the weather this week and still am with some sort of (imo) unfair Spring flu bug. So I’ve been close to bed and not that coherent on the computer which is never a good thing for a writer who is feeling under a serious time crunch.
Hoping to feel better soon but for now I’m sticking with my bed, my Kindle and my remote. Have a good weekend.
Best,
Kwana

Really?
Thanks to the fabulous Jennifer Weiner for tweeting this video from the amazing Laura Zigman. Every Time that bunny says, “really” I said it too. Just perfect. Chime in with your opinion on smart vs. not so smart women writers. I think you know where I stand. Really.

Rise and Shine
Summer Dreamin’
It’s that transition time, cool in the morning (ok, downright cold) and you bundle all up to head out to start your day. But then by the time lunchtime arrives, the sun comes out full blast bringing with it a warmth that you had almost forgotten existed. So you start to slowly peel away those layers as you wiggle your foot out into those little spots of golden light. It is there that you get that lovely taste of warmth that has you pausing and dreaming of the summer days to come.
Me, I’m starting to flirt with the idea of shedding my winter layers of suede boots and ugh, those seen better days, sneakers (that come to think of it have not seen enough of the gym while it was still cold.) and going for something prettier and lighter to put a new spring in my step. Now me being a tall girl, I’m not one to teeter around on some spindly heels so I always gravitate towards the classic espadrille as a go to summer shoe. Something about that natural rope style always takes me away to a calmer place. It’s like a vacation for your feet. I’m glad to see that this year there are plenty of styles to choose from ranging from your basic flats, which I adore, to fun and flirty stacked sandal styles that add height while still giving a girl like me (klutzy) much needed stability.
With so many espadrilles styles to choose from I can feel a shoe frenzy coming on. But first I’m thinking a trip to the nail salon for a long overdue Pedi is definitely in order. Another place I hardly saw over the winter months. Uh oh.
Tell me what is your favorite warm weather shoe style?
Side note question: Do you, like me, skip the Pedi’s during the winter?Best,
KwanaMonday? No, Thank You
Hello Monday 🙂 I’m trying to be enthusiastic as I greet you but it’s just one of those Mondays. Yes, the paint is up on the wall now and I’m happy about that, but looking around I’m sure it will take me the next month to get the house back to rights (was it me that had this bright idea?). And BTW just over a month is what I have now before the dear twins are home so all of a sudden I feel like I need to get the house to rights and my other work in order too. You know the other work, that pesky little thing called a book I’ve been working on well, forever!
So now it’s tick tock, wake up Monday’s here, but all I can feel is uh, no, thank you.But no worries. I’m up typing this aren’t I?

Colorful
The painters are still at it but the house is now a wash of white. With that I had to get out and see my knitting buddies for a while to add a bit of color back to my life. Having now picked shades of white for the living room and bedroom I am of course mourning the old color I used to have. This will be something to get used to. Oh well. Time for accessory shopping!

A New Volume
Turning up the volume and putting on a fresh coat for spring. I’m pulling out the paint brushes to say goodbye to the colors of yesterday and hello to something new. Fingers crossed I’m happy when the job is done.
Wishing you a great week.

Fifty Shades of Done
Going loosely with Wendy’s TBR theme of picking up a series that you had put down for a while, I went with just completing a series (something that I hardly ever do) and completed the oh so talked about Fifty Shades of Grey series by E.L. James. You know the one. The one that was first supposedly whispered about behind hands in the produce aisle or just referred to as “the book” as if grown women can’t speak out loud the title of a book that contains well you know… S.E.X.
I guess I’ve been speaking out of turn, flaunting my romances, with love scenes of all types included for all the world to see. At dance class, basketball practice, on the baseball field and all before I even had and ereader to hide my illicit reading.
But I digress. What more can I possibly have to say about The Fifty series these books which have been so talk about in just about every media outlet there is over this past month? For me, well, not too much. I think I’m all talked out and listened out too. I’ve given my opinion just about everywhere. Did I enjoy it? Yes, I did. I finished the series and that says a lot for me.
Now did I enjoy it for the reason you think? Hmm… yes and no. What really kept me coming back to the series were the characters. That darned dark and sexy Fifty. I just had to see how he would turn out and how he and Anna’s story would end. Would there be ultimate happiness between that fine line of pleasure and pain? I had to find out and it took 3 sexy books to get there.
For me it was a fun up and down ride, a total take me away fantasy. Sometimes joy and in true Fifty style sometimes frustrating too. Oh well, isn’t the way with these long term 3 book relationships?
Now all I can do is wonder who will play Fifty when it’s movie time.
Best,
KwanaSidebar opinion: If you are a male and or and have not read the book please do not claim to be an expert and give an opinion on the book speaking for women to warn then off. Guess what? Most of us, we know fantasy from real life and surely don’t need you to tell us how to think. M’kay? Thanks.
