Bouncing in the Big Easy …

So I woke up this morning in New York and now this afternoon I’m chilling in the Big Easy!

    NOLA b

For the next few days I’ll be soaking up the romance—along with plenty of good cheer—with many of the top writers and the most delightful and avid readers. We’re  all here at the Romance Slam Jam  fired up and excited to celebrate the genre we love.

    romance slam jam 1

And then the following week I’ll still be in the Big Easy celebrating romance with RT Book Reviews at the RT Book Lovers Convention.

This is all pretty exciting as this is my first time coming to either of these events as a published author myself. I’ll try and play it cool, but I’m not making any promises. This should be a wild time. I can’t help but wonder though, how the menfolk will fare at home with so many ladies whooping it up in NOLA. Didn’t they try a reality show with that concept a while back? Trust me there won’t be any women in tears to run home here though. LOL.

As a way of celebrating I’m putting the e-book of BOUNCE on a $0.99 Limited Time conference special! If you haven’t yet, now’s the perfect time to BOUNCE.

    Good Reading and Fan-Girling!

This week is flying by way too fast. I can’t Believe Today is May 1st. I’m trying my best to hold it back, but nothing I do is slowing the progress of time.

    may 4

The good thing is that in less than a week I’ll be in New Orleans at the Romance Slam Jam conference & then the week after that I’ll be at the RT Booklovers Convention also in New Orleans.

So what could be bad about either of these super exciting events? Just the fact that I feel so not ready. I will literally be flying by the seat of my pants as I wander around as a newly published author, faking looking smooth, while trying not to fangirl geek-out over all other not fake the cool published authors in attendance at both events. This should be interesting. I’ll be sure to check in as often as I can either here, on FB or on Twitter so look out for me and please wish me luck.  Question: Which author would you fan-girl over?

And on another fun note, my Goodreads Giveaway ended last night and I was thrilled to have over 700 entries. Congrats to my Southern winners Hannah & Danielle. Your signed copies of BOUNCE are on the way! I appreciate all of you who entered. Thanks so much for Bouncing along with me!

    All the best,

    A Goodreading Giveaway!

Thank you so much for the well wishes on my DH’s birthday yesterday and I huge thank you for the kind words on my BOUNCE unboxing video. I was so nervous about putting it up and not only because of my lack of hair and makeup (though that was quite nerve wracking) but I didn’t know quite how everyone would react to being on the 2 minute emotional roller coaster with me.  But you all were so kind and generous not to mention the hair or the makeup and you were totally understanding about the emotions and for that I’m truly grateful.

And now that BOUNCE is in print I can do a little happy dance celebrating and have some fun. So today I’m announcing my signed copy giveaway on GOODREADS. Just click enter for your chance to with 1 of 2 autographed copies from me… Whee! Don’t you love reading good?

Bounce is in print! (and I get a bit embarrassing) …

Let’s all hold hands for this shall we?

It’s finally here! Bounce is available in print and I’m a little over the moon about it!

    Kwana Bounce 1

So much so that I’ve gone and made a totally embarrassing unboxing video to express my feelings (no one was home and I had a not so bright idea about documenting a moment). Um, yeah, there’s a reason that I don’t do public speaking and you’ll all get to see it now. But at the encouragement of my Dear Son who was either moved by my video or wants others to share in his mother’s silliness I’m going to take a leap and go ahead and share.

Hey, I may not be blessed with the gift of gab, but I am happy to finally have my 1st step into self-publishing now in print as well as digitally available to share with all of you.  Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this happen. I will forever be grateful. There are too many to mention, but I would like to give a heartfelt special thanks to the amazing Ms. Lauren Dane for her beautiful cover quote. I am so honored.  Also a special thank you to Irene and Julie for their wonderful quotes. You ladies are fabulous!

Thanks, Thanks and more THANKS! This has been quite the journey.

    Bounce…coming soon in PRINT!

Happy Monday and Happy New Week Folks!

Can you believe it’s the end of March already? Even though I know I’ve been incredibly busy, still I feel like I’ve spent the first part of the year in a state of hibernated slumber and I’m just now opening my sleepy eyes to 1/4 of the year gone.

And since I’m now waking up to Spring I might as well wake up with a smile. Please join me in celebrating the cover reveal of the  PRINT version of BOUNCE coming soon to an e-tailer near you (that would be Amazon, but doesn’t e-tailer sound cool?).

Thanks so much to Mae from Coverfresh Designs once again for the amazing design work. And a huge thank you to the fabulous Lauren Dane for my fabulous cover quote. Talk about a dream come true!

    BOUNCE Whistle Wetter…

Howdy folks! Just popping in from WIP land and saying hi. H! 🙂

Today, well tonight, depending on when you’re reading this I thought I’d put up a little Whistle Wetter just to give you a taste from a scene from BOUNCE my indie contemporary romance which I’m happy to say will soon be available in POD so check back for details on that real soon. Meanwhile here is a scene from BOUNCE…

    He reaches for me.

“Hey, I know you’re up. Don’t be mad, okay? I know I should have been home earlier or called,” he says in a sheepish voice.

“I’m not mad. I just would have liked to have had you here tonight.”

“Really?” His question is clear but still he goes on as if I really need him to dig any deeper. Pick at the scab. “Because it seems lately you don’t want me around. So what’s so different about tonight?” He moves back onto his own pillows and I’m suddenly chilled. Can’t tell if it’s his tone or the distance. But I know he’s right. Even when I want him around, I don’t really. I’ve become my own deserted island.

I sit up in the bed and turn to him. “Well, you know I missed most of Zach’s game. It was because I was in with Mr. Dunlap. Today he practically guaranteed that I’d be made partner at this year’s annual meeting. I wanted you here so I could share it with you.”

Sean sits upright in the bed and turns on the light. His smile is genuine and for the first time in a long time there is a softness and an easiness between us that is unplanned and unforced. He reaches out and hugs me and for a second I sink into him. His strength and his warmth – I’ve missed what this feels like. “Babe, that’s great. I know how much you wanted it.”

When I pull back and don’t respond Sean looks at me with questioning eyes. “This is what you wanted, right?”

I’m looking around trying to find something to focus on except Sean’s confusion. The blanket’s tone on tone pattern takes on a new fascination. “Bree?” Sean asks, pulling me back to his question. “This is what you wanted?”

“Yeah, I guess, well, I don’t know,” I mumble, suddenly embarrassed at how weak I sound.

Sean lets out a long breath and sits up straighter. “You don’t know? Bree, I don’t understand you. It seems that nothing is satisfying to you lately. Not even the promotion you said you wanted for so long. The one you worked so hard for.” He rakes his hands through his short tight curls. “I thought things were fine. I thought things were going good again.” His voice grows louder as he goes on and a breathless anxiety comes over me. Threatening my edgy nerves. Hell, I thought I was all right too. At least it’s what I always tell myself. Speaking is half of believing right? But judging by the constant knots in my stomach, things are just not all right.

But everything should be. It all really should be. I’m about to have it all.

I give Sean a weak smile and pull him towards me. I kiss him deeply. And I can feel the immediate surprise course though his body. But the surprise doesn’t stop him and it doesn’t take much to get him going. He instantly falls into action, running his large hands up and down my back. Kissing my neck then trailing his tongue down toward my breasts.

    Have you BOUNCED yet?

    Working for the Weekend!

Happy Friday and Happy weekend! Wishing you all a bright and sunny one and one where there is hopefully a nice warm up for all of us. Please no snow and no ice storms. Let’s keep it nice and light, shall we?

This weekend I’ll be, I’m sure (since I already am), a little verklempt since my lovely DD will be heading off to France for her semester abroad. There will no doubt be a teary goodbye but I’ll try to save the full on waterworks for the car ride home.  I’m just hopeful that she learns a lot, stays safe and has the time of her life. France, please be good to my baby.

As for today please join me over at the newly launched Romance at Ramdom site where I’m getting real and talking BOUNCE. And speaking of BOUNCE, if you haven’t bounced in yet now is the perfect time since I’m holding a kick up your heels $0.99 for a limited time. Enjoy!

And the nominees are… (wait, that’s all you’ve got?)

So a lot has been said these past few days about the USA TODAY Top Books of 2013 list (Big congrats to all that made the list. Good for you. There are some great books there).

Also sidebar to me and giving myself a back pat for BOUNCE having gotten a mention on the USA TODAY HEA blog. Huge thanks to Michelle Monkou for the lovely review. It was called a “great book club pick”. Loving that! You can check out the full review here.

    Bounce1400 B

But back to matters at hand. So much has been said about the fact that there are no self-pubs on the USA TODAY list this year, which is huge, but I do think in many ways speaks to the power of having a backer and big marking behind you (and the possibility of a TODAY show appearance doesn’t hurt a thing). But this hybrid woman writer of color is asking another question: where are the fiction writers of color on the list?

In this big global writing world, why are the  top spots in publishing as rare as getting an Academy Award nomination? What are your thoughts? Why are so many writers of color turning to self-publishing? How can there be more visibility for these writers? Also who do you think, writer or publishing house, is getting it right? I’m sure there are some.

This is a day of celebration so things have to start looking up. I’m all about the positive. Have at it.

    All the best,
