fashion,  my view

As nicely as I can say.. get with it!

This is a complaint note I felt I had to write this morning, or not move on:

Dear Pretty Of The Moment Online Fashion House:

An avid blog reader and blogger myself, I found your site through a blog recommendation and was very excited to give it a look. Being a big fan of classic styles and the striped boatneck in particular, I wanted to order yours. Sadly, I was extremely upset to see that your size large is a size 8. I really don’t understand that size structure. Coming from a fashion background my feeling is size M should be 8-10 and L 12-14. I think your size Large being a size -8 and having it be your final size is very limited sizing and excludes a lot of women. This makes me wonder if that is your point intentional or not. It saddens me as a woman and as a mother of a teen girl in this day and age when girls are dealing so much and having to overcome assaults on their body images in the media every day. I think you have a beautiful site, full of great product and wonderful design but I would encourage you to rethink your sizing structure to be more inclusive.  And to get a new customer.  Thank you.

Kwana Jackson

P.S. I won’t say the name of house here but I did send them the note. I encourage you to do the same with other places if you encounter this problem. Why go through life feeling that you are the problem? It’s NOT you. It’s THEM!!!!

Omg large is size 8 ….unbelievable! More and more it’s so easy to feel defeated when shopping…frustrating and unrealistic! Good for you!

    Hooray for you!
In a time when positive self esteem is so necessary for both young ladies and men, some companies still feel it necessary to sell ridiculous sizes as S,M,L when they are really only fit the extremely skinny. It only adds to lessen one’s self image. This is also true for grown women as well. They try to make us think if we are not a svelte size 2 or 4 – then something is wrong with us. Shame on them.
Thank you Kwana for posting a very worthwhile subject.

You know how I love a bataeu necked top, especially in a stripe. I can give you a name of an “authentic” sailor top – and they come in many sizes! Mine is over 10 years old…..I love classics that can stand the test of time and sizes!

HALLELUJAH! We were in Charleston a few weeks ago and went in to this fabulous store, a hot American designer doing a very well done retake on the whole old money Ralphy look. I was excited as my husband was generously allowing me to get ‘anything I wanted’… as he and I, along with two of our friends, perused the store I realized that not only the clothing stopped at a size eight ( a very small size 8 at that) the BOOTS did not go past a size 9. WT? I am 5’10” and a size 12, I could lose ten lbs but certainly not a plus size. Is this the new designer trend? I feel for all those young girls who struggle with body image, I am confident enough to let my money speak and go somewhere that supports healthy bodies.
    THANK YOU!

Bravo!! Yes, I’m a big proponent of the letter writing as well (or emails) even if 1/2the time you get a basic formula letter back. You can’t complain if you don’t try to fix it!

GOOD FOR YOU, Miss thang! There is a huge problem with sizing in retail. It need to be fixed and much more accessible. Shopping should be fun, it should not leave you numb and sad.

Thanks so much for all of your comments and support. Abby ,I won’t say my size (yikes) but I’m also tall, 5 9 and wear a size 11 shoe. What a horror there. So I’m with you all they way. That store really missed out.

I will say that the pretty on-line store did respond to my email saying that they are a start up and due to production and budget could not do full sizing. That no offense was intended and hope to add more sizes xs and xl soon which will fit 12-14 in the boat neck. I am happy I wrote the complaint and got a response from them. I still encourage speaking out on this.

As Abby’s comment and other’s show’s this is something that should not be overlooked.
