So what are we getting all hopped up about? Well, the Crimson authors what to know: When you read a book, do you feel like you’ve escaped to another world?
I know when I read I sure want to feel like I’ve escaped for a while even if that book is set in the here and now. I love a book that takes me away from my every day even if it’s just for the few brief moments here and there that sometimes have to steal away to read when life gets a little hectic.
That escape to another world feeling is what I hope I achieved when I took Mika and Alejandro to their almost deserted island paradise in Through The Lens. Who knows maybe at the time I was in need of a little island getaway myself. The sun on my back and sand in my toes. It was a cold winter when I was writing Through The Lens and at the time it was sure fun to imagine warm tropical breezes drifting across glistening skin as the threat of December snow was right outside my door.

All of the books that I have loved have taken me far away, yet all to simple spots. Charlotte’s Web to the barn, Little House on the prairie to a simpler time and then Beatrix Potter to a garden. I think of all the places I love to go, it is coming home. When I am away, I dream of coming home. Something about my own bed, my own smells, my own coffee.
Exotic locales do entice and inspire but in the light of all the loss recently due to the Storm Sandy, I think coming home is always where my heart is.

I love any book that gets me away from the “mommy, mommy, mom, I am talking to you” routine I experince daily, please don’t get me wrong I LOVE my family, but sometimes you just have to get away even if it is for 5 minutes. I am more of a small town kinda girl so that’s where I like to escape but it is nice to have a big town near by to run to in the story from time to time.

Oh yeah, if I’m not transported in the story, it’s a disappointment. I treat each book as if I’m a bystander watching the scences as they unfold. I like to see in my mind’s eye the people, surroundings, and emotions. I know I’m engaged when I can’t put the book down until I’m done. The story has to have all the elements of a good story to hook me. If not, I feel cheated. I’m an avid reader and know the good, bad, and the ugly….

If I’m not hooked on the story in the first few chapters, I put it down. I need to be sucked right into the story. I am a sucker for the Happily Ever After. Romance books almost always have the HEA and I love them because of it. I especially like the PNR books with hot sexy alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines and they usually get me hooked from the very first chapter. They can be futuristic, or go back in time, or be contemporary. As long as they have some type of paranormal elements in them I will give them a try. If I do not have a book, or two, or three on the go all just does not feel right with the world! Love the title of your book Through the Lens…the tropics always calls for romance doesn’t it! I always imagine my writing nest way up in the top apartment of an old building in Paris with floor to ceiling windows and a white curtain that loves to play with the Parisian breeze…sigh…it’s so easy to drift away!

I have never been to my favorite escape destination but I hope some to to go to the Seychelles. I always see the beautiful pictures and hear about it and it seems the best place. For an escape that I have been on would be the Loire Valley in France.

I read pretty much all sub-genres of romance so I like escaping to all different destinations. If I had to pick a favorite I would probably pick regency England. I read historicals before anything else and they have a certain magic to them.

If we’re talking about real life escapes, I LOVE New Orleans. It’s my favorite vacation place. New Orleans is just beautiful and the people are even more so. In a novel, I love going everywhere! Some of my first romance novels were Julie Garwood’s Highlander novels. Love those Scottish men.

I’m a bit partial to the cabin retreats in the mountains. I suppose I feel like I can get more in tune with the hero and heroine that way since it’s typically quiet and secluded. That’s just one of my favorite escapes in my novels. As for real life, I’m perfectly okay with a nice quiet cottage in the Highlands.
