Magical Mystery Tour
I’m working on a new project. Slowly, slowly…slowly.
Of course this is no surprise. Every project goes slower than I would like. But this one is different (besides the dreaded neurotic block and all) because I’m writing in a new style. Now not all that new, my style still, I’ll say a new genre.
I’m working on a mystery which takes a lot more than my usual fly by the seat of my pants way of writing. And frankly it has me panting. Heart, thumpity, thump, thump.
But, maybe that’s good. One should be panting and on edge when dealing with such things.
So tell me, what are some of your all time favorite mystery, thriller or romantic suspense novels?
Best,
Kwana

I guess for me it really all boils down to love. I think be it an animal or a human, mystery or romance, there has to be something involving love.
Does Charlotte's Web count, that was my favorite book.
I also adored Nancy Drew, Black Beauty.
As for Adult books, I really have to think on this one.

I am a romantic at heart who loves a happy ending. I'm with PVE growing up I enjoyed Nancy Drew and Black Beauty. Another old favorite was The Swiss Family Robinson.
Go Kwana, Go Kwana… xo

Everything we do at our house brings adventure and usually some complications…whether writing, repairing, or building something. GOD always has a lesson in it for me!

I love reading historical diaries (I know that probably would bore many) but I love them. I once wrote two little novellas, best time I ever had to be frank, getting lost in writing them. Mysteries, but never tried to have them published. So you must know I get all excited when I hear a writer is preparing to start a new book, I am so intrigued! I wait for more news on your works!

I love the old Agatha Christie mysteries, Kwana. Have a great day and keep up the good work. xx

I like non fiction, but even they can be suspenseful.
So I would have to say anything with suspense, the type book that forces me to pretend to be in the bathroom for an hour just so that I can finish reading.
Interesting. Harlen Coben lives near me and he cannot write at home, says it is too distracting. So he does all hie writing in coffee shops, diners, and restaurants.
That amazes me as I would think the all the noise and commotion would be distracting.
I always see him at Starbucks 🙂

When I was young I loved the Nancy Drew Mysteries…but these were the last and only mystery books I think I read? Now wondering why? (its a mystery!)

This is funny, Kwana, because I'm in the same boat! I decided to try and plot out an Elizabethan era-set mystery idea, and it's wreaking havoc with my usual pantser ways! It's a real challenge, but I love the idea and am a huge mystery reader. I especially love historical mysteries and thrillers, and anything set in cozy little English villages 🙂

Kwana,
Welcome to the mystery world! Writing outside your genre or "comfort zone" is refreshing, challenging, and can jump start your writing. Go for it! Maybe you'll join us converts!

I don't read lots of mystery or suspense, but last year I read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Oh yeah! Loved it!
Like PVE, I read TONS of Nancy Drew when I was young. But my all-time favorite ever was Encyclopedia Brown mysteries. The absolute best!
Janet Mullany
Dorothy Sayers, Nikki French, Tana French, Kate Atkinson … all brilliant mystery-suspense writers. I'd love to write mysteries but I'm such an abysmal plotter I doubt whether I'll ever do it!

I admit I don't real a lot of mystery books.
The latest book I read was one by Nicholas Sparks.
Kristen Painter
For romantic suspense, I pretty much stick to Roxanne St. Claire.
Ina in Alaska
Hands down, for me Wilkie Collins The Woman in White.
Also another fabulous book written by Louisa May Alcott "A Long Fatal Love Chase". Dark, moody, exciting.
A Day That is Dessert
Hmm I remember loving the Nancy Drew series..but don't really read adult mysteries. Good luck – sounds exciting!
